fyi as a follow-up to the original email regarding alternatives in case
anyone is considering a FTM replacement.
There are several threads in the FTM forum in ancestry's Online Support
Community discussing alternatives.
It appears that Roots Magic and Legacy are reaching out to FTM users.
Someone referenced an ancestry blog, where ancestry seems to be willing to
integrate a third party desktop app with online ancestry.
One person was testing exporting from FTM to Legacy.
Someone commented that Legacy has already updated its GEDCOM import to
correct FTM's export problem with sorting children by birth.
I noticed several who think Legacy and Roots Magic are better than FTM.
Here's a link to a blog on the subject that was provided by a FTM user,
who recently helped me with a FTM issue.

replacement programs
Hello Carpenter List,
Please remember that FamilyTree Maker (FTM) will continue to run just fine
on your computer, but it will no longer be supported after Jan 2017. It
will not magically stop working on 1 Jan 2017.
FTM will join PAF (Personal Ancestral File) which also is no longer
supported. And PAF still works fine!
As a side note, I have run PAF on a Windows 8 tablet and it still works
very well on the upgraded Windows 10! It is a very robust older genealogy
program that is excellent for what it does.
Replacement aka newer genealogy programs, that have FREE versions which
restrict print, web page generation and other special features include ...
Roots Magic ? usually $19.95 for the full version. It is said to be a
simpler to learn program without many frills.
Ancestral Quest ? usually $29.95 for the full version. It is the only one
that has a Mac version. AQ is the great, great grandson of PAF with many
similar features and commands. I personally like this one because of the
web page generation and other neat features.
Legacy ? usually $39.95 for the full version. It is the Cadillac of this
list of genealogy programs. It has a bit of a learning curve with many
very fine features. It is a genealogy program that has most if not all the
bells and whistles you will ever need.
The following San Diego California FamilySearch Library hyperlink has
links to the free and paid versions of each of these programs. This
includes the venerable PAF 5! Click here or use them following link:
https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/San_Diego_California_FamilySearch_...
I encourage people to try the free versions then make your informed choice.

Carpunky, Richard Carponkie, Victor Carpunkie, Victor Carponkie. I have
his history from 1858 to present. Any information on his parents or
