He was my best friend later in life. But, it was often hard when I was
younger because he was gone so often. And yes, I am very proud of him.
As a side note, Lt. Col. Ollie North came to San Diego to give a talk. I
sent a note to him and he responded. Later North personally apologized to my
father and my father did not punch him him in the nose. After a short visit
my father stood up and saluted North who very formally saluted back. They
then shook hands before parting.
