I belong to the William of Providence male line, which is fairly closely
related to the William of Rehoboth line as well as a Virginia line that
can't be connected with data.........as I recall the most common name with
our yDNA besides Carpenter is Cohen........presumably thru Turkic
ancestry.........the Cohens probably in Khazaria, the Carpenters
unknown...........yes, many of us are Turks.......

Bruce,
Indeed. Many of the Ashkenazi Y-DNA in Jews of central and eastern
European descent do have Y-DNA Haplogroup R1a1 (R-M459). This same
haplogroup is part of Groups 2 & 3 of the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project.
These R1a1 Y-DNA markers are very distinct from those of the Sephardi
(Jews from Spanish and/or Portuguese descent), the Mizrakhim (Middle
Eastern Jews), Juhurim (Mountain Jews of the Caucasus), Italqim (Italian
Jews), and most other modern Jewish populations of the world called
Israelite. The most common Israelite haplotypes fall into Y-DNA haplogroups
J and E. See:
http://www.khazaria.com/genetics/abstracts.html
For a more detailed break down of the various Jewish Y-DNA Haplogroups,
please see:
http://jewishdna.net/
Please note that the Jewish DNA web page uses the longhand haplogroup
designations from older studies and not the shorthand codes becoming more
popular. For cross reference use the ISOGG 2018 Y-DNA Haplogroup Tree at:
https://isogg.org/tree/
The following is a brief basic review of Haplogroups.
In human genetics, a human Y-chromosome DNA haplogroup is a haplogroup
(inherited genes from a single ancestor) defined by mutations in the
non-recombining portions of DNA from the Y-chromosome (called Y-DNA).
Mutations that are shared by many people are called single-nucleotide
polymorphisms (SNPs). SNPs are a like a hiccup in the DNA coding chain that
can be passed down or inherited to succeeding generations.
Haplogroups and the resulting haplotypes (like sub-groups) are defined by
the presence of specific SNPs. While SNPs can be fairly calculated based on
the first 10-12 Y-STRs (short tandem repeats) from a Y-DNA test, it takes a
specific SNP test to confirm it positive (+) or confirmed presence.
FTDNA.com use the color green for confirmed SNPs and red for estimated.
Other companies use a plus sign (+) for confirmed/positive or derived and a
negative sign (-) for a not-confirmed, negative or not-derived.
Haplogroups are used in human population genetic studies (groups of
people) that range from thousands, tens of thousands and even hundreds of
thousands of years into the past. We call this deep ancestry. This is the
time before written history, genealogical records (connected paper trail
people) and the ability to genetically triangulate (via Y-DNA testing) such
back to the most recent common ancestor (MRCA). For more general
information on genetic genealogy topics, see:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Genetic_genealogy
While some may claim otherwise, deep ancestry (Haplogroups and SNP
testing) has no real use in genealogy. The most recent studies on SNPs
using the most common haplogroup in Western Europe , R1b1a1. A haplotype
R1b1a1a2a1a2b1c1a1a1a1 – aka R-CTS11232 is one of the newest in time
defined by SNPs.
To give perspective ...
Haplogroup R1b is estimated to be about 24,000 years old.
Haplogroup R1b11 is estimated to be about 13,000 years old.
Haplogroup R1b1a1a2 is estimated to be about 8,000 years old.
Haplogroup R1b1a1a2a1 is estimated to be about 6,000 years old.
Haplotype R1b1a1a2a1a2b1c1a1a1a1 aka R-CTS11232 age ... Using the aging
method developed by Iain McDonald, the median age of this block is 2370.17
YBP (421 BC). The 95% confidence interval is 1116 BC to 201 AD. See:
http://www.ytree.net/BlockInfo.php?blockID=2934
While this age estimate is amazing, it still is not within the European
genealogical time period. It is still Deep Ancestry.
As a side note, a few members of Group 2 and 3 have SNP tested using the
Big Y from FTDNA. Compare confirmed SNP markers.
R (SNP M207, M306) – abt 32,000 years ago
R1 (SNP M173, M306, P225) – abt 26,000 years ago

example: R-Z282
R1a1a1b1a? (SNP Y2395) – abt 5,000 years ago ## **** R-Y2395
R1a1a1b1a?? (SNP YP694) – maybe abt 3,000 years ago **** R-YP694
**** Long hand Haplogroup classification not given.
I hope this clarifies.

Subject: [CARPENTER] Jewish ancestry
A good number of Ashkenazi DNA holders can be matched perfectly with our
English Carpenters. This can be best seen in the DNA of the Levite Jews in
history. They have their own internet site. Have a peek.
