Family of Joseph Carpenter-2712
First Generation
1. Joseph Carpenter-2712 was born on 3 May 1692 in Jamaica,,LI,NY. He
died by 20 Dec 1797 in or of Goshen,Orange,NY.
Number 91 in the Carpenter Memorial. Page 62
Family on page 87 (#51)
Probably married twice. #2 Susanna abt 1750? See 40+ year spread of
children.
It is evident that Joseph, brother of Samuel and Benjamin, settled in and
about
Goshen, NY as he and his son were assessed in 1775: also a Ruth Carpenter.
It
is evident that Joseph Jr. was over 21 years of age in 1775.
Joseph's will was dated 17 Oct 1789 and proven 20 Dec 1797. It mentions
sons;
Jesse, Colvill, Joseph (Jr.), John & Benjamin. Daughter: Christina,
grandson Henry Young.
Joseph married (MRIN:1282) Susanna Christina Bradner-2848 daughter of John
Bradner Rev.-3379 and Christian Colville-2683 (MRIN:1276) about 1730/1750.
Susanna was born about 1713 in At Sea,Enroute to,America. She was christened
in of,CApe May,NJ. She died on 3 Mar 1809 in Goshen,Orange,NY.
AF has birth as 1734, and last name as "BRADNOR", however the AF has a child
of hers born 1730.
She must have been at least 15 to be married, putting her birth abt 1715.

DOB is 1713 at sea to America with parents ; DOD is Mar 3, 1809. Last name
is Bradner not Bradnor.
MORE:
Another little tidbit about Susanna Bradner ---- her full name was Susanna
Christina Bradner AND in her
mothers testament she is called Christina, not Susanna. I guess her mother
liked Christina, because it
was similar to hers (Christian).
Joseph and Susanna had the following children:
2 M i. Colville or Calwell or Calvin Carpenter-2687
was born in 1730 in Chester,Orange,NY. He died in Hempstead,,LI,NY. He had
other parents.
Number 336 in the Carpenter Memorial. Page 87
Family on page 161 (#149)
His name is listed as Calvin, Colvin, Colvell, and Colwell, but the AF has
his name as
Colville named after a relative.
He served in the Revolution and was in Captain Casey's company: He was
assessed
in Chester in 1775.
He was born in Hempstead, LI per the Carpenter Memorial but the Carpenter
and
Related Family Historical Journal (1995 Vol. 5, No. 9) indicates Chester,
NY.
The will of Calvin was dated Aug. 25, 1805, proved Dec. 23, 1815. 2 SOUR
S203 3
TEXT pg 161
1 MILI Calvin served in the Revolutionary War and was in Captain Casey's
Company;
he was assessed in Chester in 1775. We find his name written Calvin, Colvin
and
Colvell, but Calvin is probably the correct name?
1 MILI 1 MILI 2 SOUR S203
Colville married (MRIN:1283) Sarah Hall-2689 . Sarah was born about
1730/1740 in Chester,Orange,NY.
3 M ii. Benjamin Carpenter-2758 was born in 1731 in
Chester,Orange,NY. He died on 29 Dec 1794 in Grace,Jamacia,LI,NY. He was
buried on 2 Jan 1795 in Grace Churchyard,Grace,Jamacia,LI,NY.
Number 339 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 87.
Family on page 161 (#151) A butcher.
Benjamin, the butcher, was a member of Grace Church, Jamacia, NY; petioner
for
membership, 8 April 1761; tombstones are erected in Grace Churchyard to the
memory of Benjamin and his wife Mary and his two daughters, Sarah Luman and
Elizabeth Serllen.
The house of Benjamin Carpenter, the butcher, was sold by the sheriff, 29
July
1774 (Jamaica Records). Letters of Administration to his estate were given
to
his son, Benjamin 1795.
In the Carpenter Memorial on page 87 is an note taken from the NY
Gazette, 1 Sept 1795 where Benjamin apologises for beating violently one
Joseph
French, one of His Majesty's Justices. This must be his son that did this.
Benjamin married (MRIN:1325) Mary Combs or Comes-3433 daughter of John
Combs or Comes-13152 (MRIN:1622) on 23 Jun 1753 in Grace,Jamacia,LI,NY. Mary
was born in 1735 in of,Craigville,Orange,NY. She died on 18 Jun 1798 in
Grace,Jamacia,LI,NY. She was buried in Grace Churchyard,Grace,Jamacia,LI,
NY.

Subject: Carpenter Data - Joseph Carpenter &Susanna
John ..... thanks so much for the ROM data. I finally got this
straightened out with the help of 2 other great contributors. It
seems
my coauthor of the Bradner Genealogy had the Carpenters all messed
up.
I DO have some problems with the ROM data though .....
4) I have Benjamin marrying Mary Comes, not Combs. Which would be
correct ?? (COMBS or COMBES)
4 M iii. Joseph Carpenter-2829 was born about
1730/1732 in Chester,Orange,NY.
Number 337 in the Carpenter Memorial. Page 87
Family on page 161 (#150)
CM has birth about 1730. AF has 1 Jun 1777 (a 47 year gap)
Birth date and chr date probably belong to his son.
The Carpenter and Related Family Historical Journal (1995 Vol. 5, No. 9)
indicates he married. A Patriot, he served in the 1st Regiment, Orange
County,
New York Militia.
!SEE: New York in the Revolution as Colony and State, by Roberts.
Joseph married (MRIN:1360) Susan Seely-20249 about 1750 in ,Orange,NY.
Susan was born about 1732 in ,,NY.

in Chester,Orange,NY. He died on 25 Feb 1805 in ,St. Marys,MD. He was buried
in Christ Church,Chaptico,St. Marys,MD. He had other parents.
Number 338 in the Carpenter Memorial. Page 87
Not found in AF, no family in CM, probably died before age of majority?
The Carpenter and Related Family Historical Journal (1995 Vol. 5, No. 9)
indicates he married. He is believed to be a Patriot. He may have had two
sons, one who was killed making gunpowder for the navy.

born about 1742 in ,,NY.
8 M vii. Jesse Carpenter-2688 was christened on 19 Sep
