As you may have heard on internet forum discussions, and our new blog, the
project is reviewing its progress toward the project goals, which remain:-
. Developing of a haplogroup map of the British Isles, broken down into
the pre-industrial and medieval divisions, as reflected in the traditional
counties.
. Providing a useful resource for genetic genealogists seeking to advance
knowledge of their British Isles ancestry (i.e., who their ancestral
neighbours were) through their Y and mitochondrial haplogroups.
The project has developed very well, and now has >4400 members. But in the
case of Y-DNA testees, we are still unable to assign the majority of our
members to specific county subgroups, since we lack information on a
direct
paternal line ancestor who was born, died, buried or is
otherwise recorded in the British Isles. This is because many people have
not provided information on their ancestors on their "User Preferences"
pages.
1. As a FIRST STEP to bring some order into the project, we now require
new members to apply to join the project. A criterion for membership is
documented or known ancestry in the British Isles. This information must be
provided with each new join request.
2. We also ask all those members who have not provided information on
their most distant known ancestors (name of ancestor, date of event,
specific
location, with geographical coordinates) in their User Preferences boxes
to
do so as soon as possible. Detailed instructions can be found on one of
our
website pages at:
