I am also interested in the name Soule. It is my grandfather's middle name,
and I was told as a child it was a family name. It was not his mother's
maiden name, however, as his parents were Alfred Madison Carpenter and
Mariah Priscilla (Schoonover)Carpenter. I can find no Soules on his mother's
side although I have a lot of other information on her family.
I have no information at all on his father's side except that his father was
born in 1830 in New York, & was the youngest of 11 children. His only
sibling name I know is his oldest sister, RoxyAnna Carpenter Luther. She was
born in 1812. Their parents are shown as having been born in Rhode Island on
a census record.
The earliest census records I have on Alfred Madison Carpenter show him in
Madison county, New York in 1850. Later, I have a marriage record when he
married for the second time to my great-grandmother in Iowa. They settled in
KS, and had 6 children, 5 of whom lived, and one of whom was my grandfather
Fred Soule Carpenter.
I would appreciate any information that would help me tie this family to the
Soule line, or any other Carpenter line.
Thanks,
Bonnie
