I am a descendant of the Carpenter/Zimmerman line. I had my
cousin's y-dna (kit 386630) sent to you several years ago. I have
not had his family finder test. I have had mine done (Family Finder)
and my kit number is 713943. My gedmatch number is T758582. I am not
sure if this is any use to the project or not. My line is: mother -
Sarah Glendon Carpenter; grandfather * Warner Lafayette Carpenter; great
grandfather - Leonidas Lafayette Carpenter; gggrandfather - Joseph
Carpenter; ggggrandfather - Peter Carpenter. That is the paper
trail that I have. I believe the line continues with gggggrandfather
- Joseph Zimmerman, Hans Zimmerman, Abramham Zimmerman, but this is from
family trees posted on Ancestry.

Gene,
But because of the internet, like an old horror movie, it continues
to
rise from the grave now and then. Then it deserves another
proverbial
stake through the heart.
I was overly generous when I described that ... such has only been
speculated at best with good wishes, spit, tape and vain hope!
And ... In reality, the best documented Carpenter surname lines only
go
back into the late 1500s.
I should have added that the best documented genealogy on the two
William
Carpenter immigrants and their immediate extended families are in
the
Carpenter Sketches which you wrote in 2008 and since have kept
updated.
As a side note, The Carpenter Cousins Project is always looking
for
documented genealogy on Carpenter Cousins from Western Europe. A
free
basic 12 marker Y-DNA test is offered for those who meet the
criteria.
ISOGG provides a list of many surnames with similar free DNA test
offers.

John,
From what we (yourself included) have known for nearly 15 years from
conventional genealogical researchââ¬ânamely, careful
rereading of the 1503
will of Rev. Richard Carpenter (see NEHGR
159[2005]:65n53)ââ¬âthe mythology
that either or both Rehoboth and Providence Carpenter families have
de
Melun antecedents deserves a stake in the heart, never to be
mentioned
again.

Gene,
Indeed, looking back in time the attempt was barely possible, but
still
worth trying.
I had hoped that they would have matched at least one of the then
known
organized groups.
The statistical odds of two people claiming a common ancestor that
was
25 & 29 generations back in time respectively were astronomical.
Think
of making that as a straight line consisting of 54 sets of males
and
their wives all being faithful genetically. This required no
cheating,
no adoptions, or unrelated replacements to continue the claimed
Royal
Titles without knowing ahead of time that such Y-DNA could eventually
be
traced in time!
Another way of thinking is two parallel families (claimed)
surviving,
living and maintaining their genetic (Y-DNA) birthright for over
1,000
years.
When we had a chance to review the genealogy given, many
genealogical
problems became quite obvious. And there appears to be at least
one
non-genetic or non-genealogical change due to a noble title
continuation.
It really was one amazing Hail Mary attempt! For those unfamiliar
with
the American football idiom, please see:

What a Hail Mary attempt that was! That there was no match
shouldnââ¬â¢t
be the least surprising.

Hello Cousins!
Recently someone was ... wondering the other day if you have ever
thought of Y-DNA TESTING the de Melun family of France, as
allegedly
they were the original lineage of the Rehoboth Carpenters. The
results
should be interesting if not conclusive.
While none of the Carpenter lines have been proven that far back
in
time, such has only been speculated at best with good wishes,
spit,
tape and vain hope! In reality, the best documented Carpenter
surname
lines only go back into the late 1500s.
The Carpenter Cousins Group with the longest documented lineage
back
in time is Group 9. We call this the Bern Swiss-American Zimmerman
Line. Their ancestor Bendikt ZIMMERMAN was born 1523 in Bern,
Switzerland.
