Hello Cousins!
Recently someone was ... wondering the other day if you have ever thought of Y-DNA TESTING
the de Melun family of France, as allegedly they were the original lineage of the Rehoboth
Carpenters. The results should be interesting if not conclusive.
While none of the Carpenter lines have been proven that far back in time, such has only
been speculated at best with good wishes, spit, tape and vain hope! In reality, the best
documented Carpenter surname lines only go back into the late 1500s.
The Carpenter Cousins Group with the longest documented lineage back in time is Group 9.
We call this the Bern Swiss-American Zimmerman Line. Their ancestor Bendikt ZIMMERMAN was
born 1523 in Bern, Switzerland.
Going back to the Melun question ...
Indeed we did think of this and placed a few queries on line in Europe. And eventually
(2-3 years of effort!) we found two people claiming such an heritage that were willing to
Y-DNA test.
Both testers have Royal European lineages that are documented in the Europäische
Stammtafeln * books of documented European Royalty. While neither line goes directly back
to William “the carpenter” De Melun (aka Guillaume “le Charpentier” De Melun) in those
books, both claim further research makes the connection.
Sadly, neither matched each other genetically. This even in allowing for more than double
the number of expected mutations over the numerous (26 and 29) generations. These are the
longest in time claimed ancestries in the Carpenter Cousins Project.
And neither came close to the Group 2 or 3 genetic profile. Nor did they come close to any
other genetic profile we have on file!
Indeed the results were interesting but also disappointing.
* See the older article on these books on Wikipedia which has more details than the
current stripped version.

Hi John
It's been a while since we communicated. I was wondering the other day if you have
