I want to thank all of you for e-mailing me privately.
This is taken from a photo copy of John Carpenter's will. Catharine Fordice
is
my several great grand mother and is where I tie into the Carpenter line.
John Carpenter's Will
In the name of God Amen, I John Carpenter of Beaver township Guernsey County
and
state of Ohio being week in body, but of perfect mind and memory (blessed be
to
God for his Mercies) and bearing in mind that it is appointed unto all men
once
to die, I do therefore make and ordain this my last Will and testamant and
first
of all I commend my soul to God who gave it and my body to buried in a desent
and christian manner, at this discretion of my Executors and as Touching my
worldly affects I bequeath and dispose of as follows viz: First I give and
bequeath unto Edward Carpenter my Eldest son his heirs or assigns fifty-three
and one third acres of land lying on the south side of the quarter section of
land on which I now live. I also give and bequeath unto my second son John
Carpenter his heirs or assigns fifty-three and one third acres of land lying
on
the west side of the said quarter section of land, also I give and bequeath
unto
my youngest son Jesse Carpenter his heirs or assigns fifty-three and one
third
acres of land lying in a square formin the North East corner of the said
quarter
secton and to run equally distant on the Western ... and projecting from the
said North East corner of the said quarter and I further will that the
distance
between the land bequeathed unto my eldest son Edward and that bequeathed to
my
second son John shall be made by running a straight line from the south west
corner of the land bequeathed unto my youngest son Jesse to the south west
corner of the above mentioned quarter section of land, I also give and
bequeath
unto my eldest daughter Rebecca Millor the south half of the East half of the
south east quarter of section No. 9 of township No. 8 of Range No. 7 and I
also
give and bequeath unto my daughter Margaret Morgan the North Half of the said
half quarter section of land. I also give and bequeath unto my Daughter
Catherine Fordice out of my moveable property to the amount of fifty dollars
at
the appraisement. I also give and bequeath unto my Daughter Nancy Carpenter
her
mothers bedstead, bed and beding and fifty dollars out of my personal
property
at the appraisment and I further will that the balance of my property if any
shall be equally divided amongst my heirs being seven in number. And I do
appoint Edward Carpenter, John Carpenter and Jesse Carpenter my sons to be
executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void
all
wills heretofore by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and
soul this nineteenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and thrity-two. Singed sealed and acknowledged by the above named
John
Carpenter to be his last will and testament in presence of us who have
hereunto
subscribed our names as witness in the presence of the Testater.

The foregoing will of John Carpenter, being brought into Court
Robert Carpenter one of the subscribing witnesses thereto being
called come into Court, and being duly sworn in open court
wherewith and saith that he saw the testater subscribe

said will was approved and ordered to be recorded
together with the said foregoing testimony taken to ...
