I am looking for information on my ggrandmother, Angeline carpenter. She was
born March 8,1853, probably in Illinois. She died in Madison Co., Ar. Sept.
3, 1916. She is buried in the Patrick Cemetery in Madison Co., Ar.
According to what information I have, she was very mysterious. She came to
Ar. with her first husband, Old Man McGee. They reportedly were on the run
from somewhere. Magee or McGee sold honey and had jewelry. It was thought he
may haved honey for jewels. Before he died, he carried a sack (jewels ?) up
the creek and may have buried them there. They had one daughter, catherine.
After Magee died, Angeline married my ggrandfather, Andrew Jackson Patrick.
Jack and Angeline had nine children including my grandmother, Mollie Jane who
married Thomas Gifford Clark. According to information, she wouldn't tell
anything about herself. She had a trunk of papers but burned them when her
children got old enough to read. She often tallked about her sister throwing
her silver cup down the well but when asked how many sisters she had, she
would just cry. The 1880 census says her father was born in Kentucky and her
mother in Tennesee.
An interesting story about her
The James Gang stopped at Jack and Angelines house. Angeline ran up the hill
to warn my gggrandfather, William Patrick. The gang used William's spring
below the house as a camp. They left their horses with a Negro and went away
for a while and came back. One of the Patrick's smarted off to them and they
were going to kill him but Angeline convinced them to let himl go and they
rode off with the law (capt. Hiram Combs) after them. Combs followed them as
far as Black Mountain and they told him he had come far enough and Combs went
back.
If anyone has any information on Angeline, I would love to hear from them.
Thanks
