Hi Rae!
According to legend, my gg-grandmother, Elizabeth (Carpenter) Montgomery,
moved herself and her 3 kids from Kentucky (where she was born and married)
to Arkansas after my gg-grandfather, Willis G. Montgomery, passed away in
1862. Her oldest son, LPC (Lindsay Pascal Carpenter) Montgomery was
eventually married in Little River County, AR in 1890. In 1892, Elizabeth
and her youngest child, Will, made the run into Oklahoma and staked out 160
acres at Foss.
I've never understood why Elizabeth moved to Arkansas after Willis died,
and often wondered if there were other Carpenters living there at the time
that might have encouraged her to come and join them. Do you have a
website where I might be able to look at your family trees? I'd like to
know as much as possible about any Carpenters living in AR in the
mid-to-late 1800's.
Thank you!
