There is a document called A Carpenter Family of Lancaster by AY
Casanova (Philipsburg, PA), 1910. It explains that Heinrich Zimmerman (b
1673) arrived in Germantown PA around 1706 with his wife Salome Ruffner.
They came from Berne, Switzerland. It says that Zimmerman was anglicized (by
William Penn) in deeds and naturalization papers to Carpenter. They had the
following children: Emanual, Gabriel, Christian, Salome, Henry, Daniel,
Jacob, Mary. The document is on microfilm. I saw it and copied it at the
Newberry Library in Chicago, but the cover says that the locality of record
is Iowa State Historical Society, Des Moines. I only copied those pages
that pertained to my families, the Ferrees and DuBois. If you want the 12
pages that I have, send your mailing address. Everything in this (poor)
copy relates to Pennsylvania only.
Also, I received an e-mail from Phyllis Rummel, 15716 Fitzhugh Rd, Austin,
TX 78736. It was an e-mail forwarded from many other people, but I think
Phylllis address might be jrcrin001(a)aol.com. It contains variations on the
above, although mostly parallel information. I have some updates, but have
only made handwritten notes: besides, I don't think they relate to you. But
I could send a copy of this information as well.
Hope this helps.

Good morning Listers,
I have a question , hopefully I will get an answer. Do any
of you have Carpenters that were Zimmermans before they changed their
name ?
I have a John C Carpenter born in SC ca 1810 , married in GA to
Elizbeth/Almanda Sanford , lived in Cobb co GA, then Blount co AL. He
was on the Palo Pinto co TX 1860 census , went to Hood co TX in 1871
where he died ca 1876.
A cousin has told me we were Zimmermans from near Mainz , Germany . I
haven't found a way to check this ..Does anyone have clues for me ? I am
a novice researcher , don't have a clue to where to go from here.
Thanks for your time , Shan in Lawton, OK
