Dear Researchers,
My grandfather immigrated to the US via the Great Northern RR from
Winnipeg, Canada to Los Angeles, Cal. leaving Canada on Dec 15, 1903 and
arriving in LA on Dec 18, 1903 to visit Carpenter relatives from the
Isle of Sheppey, Kent Co., England.
His mother was Hannah Carpenter born in Eastchurch on the Isle of
Sheppey. She had 3 brothers in the 1841 Eastchurch census. They were:
James Carpenter 11
George Carpenter 9
Hannah Carpenter 6
John Carpenter 3
On Hannah Carpenter's marriage license to my great grandfather, David
Attwood, it said her father was William Carpenter. There is no mention
of this William Carpenter in the 1841 Eastchurch census as these
Carpenter children were living with another family in Rowetts Cottage.
If your Carpenter relatives lived in Los Angeles in 1903 and were from
Kent Co., England perhaps they could be related to me.
It is time to come home now, you have been missing a mighty long time.
My grandfather, Edward Attwood, and a Carpenter cousin went to Idaho to
work in a mine in WARDNER, IDAHO. Edward went on to Indiana, but the
Carpenter relative remains elusive.
