Got this from the AVERY list :

Dear Listers,
About 1794, Lucinda AVERY married John CARPENTER (born 6 January 1775 in
Stafford, Tolland County, CT). I should judge that she was born around
1776, and probably also in or near Stafford, Tolland County, CT, but she
could have been from
Huron County, Ohio.
John and LUCINDA AVERY Carpenter had:
1. Sarah Carpenter for which I have no birthdate
2. Stephen Carpenter 1795
3. Elias Carpenter 1797
4. John Carpenter 1803
5. Polly (Probably Mary) Carpenter 1807
6. Reuben Carpenter 1808
7. Ruth Carpenter 1809 (married 1st Eggleston, 2nd Samuel Alpha
Olmstead)
LUCINDA AVERY died before 1813, in Fairfield Township, Huron County,
Ohio.
John Carpenter then remarried Sarah Adams, and had more children. He
died in 1859
in Fairfield.
Any help with Lucinda would be sincerely appreciated.
Regards,
Sharilyn Whitaker

I think I asked this question before.....
I have a Bemsley Carpenter who died February 22, 1853 at age 77 years old.
His wife Olive died March 30, 1850 at 64 years old. They are buried at the
Madison Center Cemetery, Madison, Ohio.
Also, does anyone claim Thomas Cerpenter who died 17 August, 1851 at age 25?
(He is buried at Madison Township Cemetery, Madison Ohio.) He was the
husband of Almeda Maria Genung. They had children: Alice M. Carpender who
married Charles Moak, and also a son Henry T. Carpender who married and lived
in Dubuque, Iowa.
Anyone know where this line fits?
I also need to find the line in which Charlts Carpenter/der fits. He was
born c. 1785 and died in 1854 in Michigan. He married Sally Lewis.
If anyone knows where these two Carpenters "belong", please let me know.
THANKS,
Jan Skinner

Subject: Town Clerk's possible ancestors

In the library of the University of Washington is an extensive
collection of English state papers from the middle ages, consisting
of law cases and tax records. There are well over a hundred
thick blue volumes, each many hundreds of pages. There is much Carpenter
related. Today I will present a sample from three
volumes entitled CALENDAR OF THE CLOSE ROLLS, from
the late 1200s, the time prior to John Carpenter the Town
Clerk and his father Richard. My object is to find material
suggestive of their origins. A very wealthy individual discovered
was a Edward le Carpenter or Charpenter and his son Robert.
The pair are noted in many legal proceedings. Edward and Robert
are residents of Middlesex Co. a traditional residential area
for wealthy London merchants. Edward's identity as a foreign
resident is immediately sugested by the Charpenter name,
which is used in at least half the references to him. Son Robert
is cited in a law suit with "merchants of Amiens". Edwards
assets extend to holdings in London itself. In a 1289 security
for a loan, his "lands and chattels in the city of London" are
cited, as well as elsewhere his " lands and chattels in Co. Middlesex."
Witnesses to Edward's financial dealings are
seemingly very powerful individuals such as a Earl of Cornwall
in one proceeding.
Sincerely,
Bruce E. Carpenter
