Sharon,
I'm about to hyperventilate. I need to get to Madison County soon, or
else! And I have no time to think or dig right now. But you have sent me
some really interesting stuff. I suspect that these DeRuyter CARPENTERs
are my folks. I also see that there is a Betsey CARPENTER, whose father is
William CARPENTER (both of DeRuyter). Betsey was married in 1811, which
makes her a likely sister of my John CARPENTER, b. 1797 in VT! If I can
establish their siblinghood (?), then I have finally found a very important
part of my family, esp. John's long-lost father.
If it wouldn't be too much work, could you please look up the names of the
newspapers for the following items?
Carpenter, Delford d. DeRuyter 30 Aug 1843 in his 44th year
Carpenter, Ezekiel d. at Cazenovia 16 Nov 1850 ae 77 yrs.
Carpenter, John d. DeRuyter 15 May 1879 of heart disease ae

children only three living

Miss Amanda Carpenter all of Stockbridge

Chappell, Henry late of Cherry Valley, Otsego Co. made public
confession of defamation and slander against William Carpenter of
DeRuyter and dau. Betsey Carpenter. Signed Henry (X) Chappel at DeRuyter
before Jeremiah Justus and Eli Gage. 30 Jan 1809 and several following

Thanks for these great finds!
