Hi, Carl! You're the first sign of life on the lists in a while.
If I've asked this before, please forgive me. Just wondering if you have
an ancestor named Elmer CARPENTER? The 1879 Minnesota census shows him as
"Aylmer," but who knows. My pop says he was Uncle Elmer. Anyhow, John
CARPENTER, b. 1797 in VT, had a son, James, b. about 1823 in Madison
County, NY. James took his family west through IN and MI to MN, and then
most of them went on to South Dakota. One of his boys was Osmer Harold,
who had a son named Francis Adelbert, who had a son named Osmer Sidney
CARPENTER, who is my father. Pop says Uncle Elmer was a Texan, and came
back to South Dakota for a visit after a long absence. I'm not 100% sure
of his children, but I think they included James, twin boys named Ralph and
Rolly, and other sons, at least. I think I may have the kids wrong, maybe
even by a generation or so. Haven't had a chance to review this all with
Pop yet.
Uncle Elmer was born about 1851, most likely in Madison County, NY (De
Ruyter or Stockbridge/Munnsville areas, if my research is going right). He
married Emma Plum.
I have no idea what part of Texas was home to Elmer, but would like to find
out.
Happy New Year, and New-or-Not-New Millennium!
George
