I am seeking information on the ASHMAN CARPENTER who was born about 1818
and married SUSAN ALLEN. They lived on a farm in Beatystown, near
Phillipsburg, NJ (Warren County, NJ). They may have lived in neighboring
Sussex County, NJ for a while. + marks my family link.
ASHMAN CARPENTER and SUSAN ALLEN had the following children:
(1) Carrie Carpenter; ran a boarding house in Hackettstown, NJ and later
lived at a Civil War Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa; retired to
Newton, NJ
(2) Jacob (Jake) Carpenter was a minister during the Civil War; bachelor
(3) Charles Carpenter fought in the Civil War; had a glass eye due to an
injury + (4) Robert Aaron Carpenter b. July 3,
1847 d. April 21, 1929 in Hackettstown, NJ
Married Abbie Smith b. 1846 Budd Lake, NJ d. 1914
Hackettstown, NJ They
operated a large cranberry farm near Budd Lake, NJ and shipped all
over the world
They had the following children:
(i) Harry Carpenter b. Budd Lake
(ii) Ashman (Ish) Carpenter
(iii) Della Carpenter b. December 31, 1870 Stephensburg, NJ
d. April 1964 Tatamy, PA
Married Frank Haggerty
+ (iv) Carrie Nettie Carpenter b. March 21, 1873 in
Stephensburg, NJ; lived on a farm in Beatystown, NJ. Married September
14, 1892 Adam Scharrer, son of John Scharrer and Elizabeth Schneider d.
May 7, 1962 Bloomfield, NJ
(v) Charles Carpenter
(vi) Ezra Carpenter lived in Hackettstown, NJ; initially a
blacksmith; then ran a roadside store in Hackettstown, NJ
(vii) Holloway (Hal) Carpenter lived in Stephensburg, NJ area
