There are several Carpenters in my ancestral past.
South: Owen Carpenter, bca 1740, dca 1881 Moore Co. NC (killed by
British troops, wife Catrin. The descendancy from that is Owen
Carpenter (Sarah or "Sallie" and Martha), b ca 1773-75 Moore Co. NC, d
1862-70 Tippah Co. MS (fought in War of 1812 out of TN); Elias Carpenter
(1813 TN to aft 1852 probably Tippah Co. MS), m Elizabeth C. Morgan in
1833 Calloway Co. KY; Owen Francis Carpenter (1818 Tippah Co. to l Jul
1863 Gettysburg), m Nancy Ann Smith; Mary Francis Carpenter (my
gr-grma), (1862 Tippah Co. MS to 1940 Jackson Co. TX), m. WIlliam Thomas
Bryan.
Northern lines:
1) Sarah Carpenter, b 1799, d aft 1879 War of 1812 pension papers in
NY, m Joseph Horton in White Plains, West., NY. Sarah and Joseph lived
most or all of their lives in the Rye area. Their dau, Mary Melvina
Horton was b 1828, d 1911 Rye-White Plains-Mamaroneck area, WEst., NY.
Mary married William H. Gedney in 1852 Milton, Rye area. Have not been
able to find her parents or any of her siblings.
2) Anna Carpenter who mrried James Gedney (1733, 1809 Westche. Co. NY).
Her parents were Nathaniel Carpenter and ? (don't have material handy).
3) Martha Carpenter (b 1729), m Thomas Park 1747 in NY probably,
(resided there during marriage). Her parents were Thomas Carpenter
(1687, Musketa Cove, LI, will dated 1766 resided Harrison, West., NY, m
1708 to Hannah.
