Thanks for your kind words. I just got back from vacation and am just
getting to my e-mail.
I spent much time on the Heinrich Zimmerman family of Lancaster Co., Pa. One
reason was that an early genealogist had stated that the old Hans Z. of
Lancaster was a brother of "Der Schwarze" Heinrich the immigrant. I have not
been able to prove or disprove this assertion, but am suspect that they were
brothers.
Heinrich came from the village of Wattenwil, Berne Kanton, Switzerland. He
came to America as early as 1709. There were also other Zimmermans who
lived in Lancaster Co. Most were Swiss and many were Mennonite or Amish.
Heinrich's family or at least some of them renounced their pacifist beliefs
and supported the Patriot cause in the Revolution.
You should write the following persons. They have researched this family for
many years. They have visited Wattenwil and other Swiss villages to learn
more. Please write George and Virginia Jansen, 126 Orchard Court, Richland,
WA 99352-9645.
They should be able to be of assistance. If I may help more, please let me
know.
Good luck on your research!
