Hello fellow Carpenter hunters, I am looking for anymore imformation on my
ggggrandfather. His name was James Carpenter, born in NC around 1780.
Died in Tishomingo Co. Ms. in 1840. I do not know if there is anyone who could find a
need for this imformation, but I will put it in case they can.
His wifes name was Mahala. After he died this indenture was made 16th of May, 1840
between her, consort of the late James Carpenter, deceased, and Richard Thomason and Nancy
Thomason (late Nancy Carpenter) his wife and
Abner Moody and his wife Eliza Moody (late Eliza Carpenter) and Lony Carpenter and his
wife Matilda Carpenter (late Matilda Farris) and Mahala Carpenter for the minor heirs of
said late James Carpenter to wit: John J. Carpenter and Amanda Jane Carpenter, all
children and heirs of the late James
Carpenter do hereby covenant and agree with each other that whereas the late
James Carpenter before dying called around him his children and before them expressed his
wishes as to what manner he then wished his effects and estate
dispersed of among his wife and children which was and follows: To Terry Carpenter I give
and bequeath and interest in a note I hold on David Farris of
$50.00 and a bay mare(Sally). To Abner Moody I give and bequeath the balance of the said
note on David Farris which is $50.00 and bequeath the sum
of $75.00 in a note on William Bathsom (?) the tract of land on which he lived on at his
death he requested and bequeath the same to his two minor children,
John J. Carpenter and Amanda J. Carpenter and the balanceof his estate consisting of 21
hogs, five head of cattle, one yoke oxen, 1 wagon , 1sorrel mareand colt, one note on L.M.
Guy for $208.20 together with one or two other
small notes and accounts. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife to have for the support
of herself and her minor children*****Mahala Carpenter
I found this in a deed book in Tishomingo Co. Ms. I would appreciate any imformation
anyone may know of this family. Amanda J. is my gggrandmother.
Born 1835 in Alabama. Married William M. Nunley in 1852. She died in 1894 in Tishomingo
Co. Ms.
