It is nice to see that everything is up and running again.
I have just received the leading edge of some research that asserts that
Temple CARPENTER(b. 1769) of Moore and Montgomery Co., NC is the son of
Thomas CARPENTER, who is the son of Owen CARPENTER. Thomas is
established as Temple's father through Bible record and I am awaiting
confirmation that the same Bible or other evidence proves Thomas to be
the son of Owen (Sr. presumably).
This paints an interesting picture. Perhaps there was an original Owen
(b. bef. 1725) who had atleast three sons, Thomas, Owen, and Jonathan,
all born in the 1740s. These sons in turn had other Owens. The really
confusing point is: which Owen was shot.
I have found no record of a Thomas in Moore or Montgomery Co. however, I
have found one in Nash Co., NC. His 1800 Census data implies that he is
probably about 60, born about 1740, and therefore the perfect age to be
the father of Temple, and perhaps the Owen and Jonathan who accompanied
him to GA.
Nash Co. is also interesting because there was a Capt. Solomon CARPENTER
there during the Rev. War. Solomon of course is a family name found in
the 1790 Montgomery Co. Census.
I came across one report that Thomas of Nash Co. and son Reuben go to
Edgefield Co., SC after 1800. This is awfully coincidental because Adam
CARPENTER(b. ~1778) of Moore Co. moves there by 1803.
The same report or another report (I lost it in an e-mail disaster)
claims that this Thomas and son Reuben came down to Nash Co. from NY
about 1790 before moving on to Edgefield Co., SC after 1800. Perhaps it
is just possible that this Thomas and Reuben did not come from NY, but
came from Moore or Montgomery Co.
There are certainly a lot of suspicious aspects about these Nash Co.
CARPENTERs and they are worthy of intense scrutiny. Does anybody have
any data whatsoever regarding any CARPENTERs in Nash Co., NC at any time
prior to the early 1800s?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken
