As far as locating old newspapers, I don't know about your state- but New York
State Library sytem has many old newspapers that can be lent to local libraries-
maybe, depending on the state you live, it is possible for other states to do the
same. Try researching your state library system and see what they have. It can't
hurt to ask! Meri

Not all local newspapers are kept locally. Wish I knew where my notes were on
a class I took on finding people. One thing I remember is to try some of the
university libraries. Search on line first. If you know the name of the
newspapers that were published in those days in the area of interest you can
search by name and location. Don't just stop with the local universities.
Some Us are noted for their archives. Wish I could be of more help but I'm
just remembering in generalities.
