Rick, can't answer your question about the sincerity of the offer, but check this
Web page
http://www.family-trees.com/
and mail to them with questions. This looks like the organizations page for the
mail we Carpenters just got. Since I got one of each of my e-mails, I suspect
they used the contact e-mail on the Family Tree Maker User pages. I have one
under
http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/a/r/Gerald-H-Carpenter/index.html and
http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/a/r/Jerry-Carpenter/index.html
with different e-mail addresses under each and I received the mail you referred
to on each e-mail address.
cheers

Hello list,
Does anyone know anything about the FamilyTrees, Inc. organization? I just got
a message this morning to subscribe to *their* Carpenter family genealogy
mailing list. I guess I'm being too cautious, but I don't want to get hooked
up with a Halberts-in-disguise or a for-profit CD burner outfit.
