#3540 Isaac Cunningham v. William Carpenter and Charles E. McCoy. Sept.,
1851. note of Oct. 2, 1847, for a cotton gin sold by Cunningham to Carpenter
and McCoy. Gin ordered was a 60-saw gin guaranteed to pick 2 1/2 bales a day
or, if pushed, 3 bales a day. Sold for $160. Deft. states that the gin picked
only 1 1/2 bales a day. The brush flew all to pieces and had to be repaired
seven times. They returned it to Hudsonville, Miss., and were offered
another gin formerly owned by Nelms N. Northcross. Carpenter returned with
the old gin, which still does not work properly. Judgement for the
plaintiff.

Note: Benjamin B. Booker married Martha Carpenter, dau of Owen Carpenter,
Jr.....Owen Jr. is living with them on 1860 census of Tippah County,
MS...there are still lots of Bookers in Tippah County and I have lots of
records..I have never checked the deed data that shows William to have been
in Hardeman County, TN....which I dont think is far away........I dont have
a 1850 Yalobusha County, MS census...would you include this in your reply.
There may be a connection between the Sarah McCoy on the 1850 census and the
cotton gin lemon.....Nancys maiden name may have been McCoy....I got Green
from some other researcher...as you can see, I have not proved it...it seems
to be a common Carpenter first name...my John Marion Carpenter had a son -
Green C. Carpenter, buried next to him in Tippah Co., MS who came home ill
from The
War and never got well....died without a family.
Hope to hear from you soon. I will be glad to mail to you an outline of all
the
descendants that I have of Owen Carpenter, Sr. if you wish......but (much to
my dismay) I think we need additional research on William Carpenter who
married Susan (Terrell?)
