Sorry thathaven't been able to send this before:
This information developed by Eugene ZUBRINSKY, of OJAI, Cal.He is not on
line with his computer. He found information on 2 films available at LDS -FHC.
The film #s are:#1279426 ,item #11........Filkm # 1526634,item #17.
The most pertinent info is as follows:
Information from Shalbourne Parish "Bishop's Transcripts,Wiltshire/Berkshire.
#1William Carpenter married there on 28 April 1625 to ABIGAIL BRIANTE,who was
baptised at Shalbourneon 27 May 1604, daugh/o JOHN& ALICE
BRIANT(note:spelling as in transcript)Also baptised at Shalbourne were %
(five) children of William/Abigail being:
1, JOHN 8 October1626
2. ABIGAIL 31 May 1629
3. WILLIAM 22 November 1631
4. JOSEPH 6 April 1634
5. SAMUEL 1 March 1636(7) buried:20 April 1637
It is the first 4 who were no doubt passengers on "Bevis".
This is the meat of the article(12 pages) the rest is information on location
of Horwell and Shalbourne to each other plus Gene's very intensive
observations.
Besides ordering the above films, it might be to your advantage to either
subscribe to "The American Genealogist) T,A.G., or to request acopy of the
issue which contains Gene's article.THe address for T,A.G.:
T.A.G.,P.O. Box # 398, Demorest, GA.,0398
For the issue, :order Whole # 280...Vol. 70...#4 .."The Family of WILLIAM 2
CARPENTER of REHOBOTH,MASS, by :Eugene Zubrinsky
Now..note above, Gene calls William the 2nd, thgat is because he considers
the father william who accompianed them should be called WILLIAM 1. He and I
disagree, and have had serious discussion about this. He claims that the
father William, being on ship listMADE OUT IN ENGLAND, is there-fore the 1st
emmigrant.
I claim that there being no record of his having settled in America,
possibilities are:
1. he never made the boat, because of sicknes,or worse death, or that he may
have died on route, or even "fell overboard".nowhere does it say he landed in
America. He may even have returned immediately to England.Take your pick...to
me his son was WILLIAM 1.!!!
Topic # 2 re:The English CARPENTERS which is causing a stir .
One correpondent yesterday,Saturday, was asking about RAYMOND G. CARPENT
ER.
He was THe CARPENTER historian, anmd lived in Florida(aged).I had
correspondence with him in the late 70s, in fact he probably more than anyone
started me down this prickely path!!!It is a long hand written lewtter, and
served to raise my doubts about Amos Carpenter book...as it applied to the
early years( see "virus" above in family and order of births of children)
I have in my files(written!!) a 4 page article by :HARRY ROGERS, and RAYMOND
G.
CARPENTER, which covers the ENGLISH families..It is in very small print, and
has several charts , impossible to send by E=Mail without a page scanner of
some sort.
They agree on the descent of the 2 WILLIAM CARPENTERS.William 1 of Rehoboth,
and WILLIAM 1 of Providence( this area now split by Pawtuxet River, one half
being in Cranston ,R.I., and the other in Warwick, R.I....the whole town
named PAWTUXET
The main bone of contention between the two writers, appears to be whether
ROBERT,d: 1545 in Eskydmore,Upton, WAS the son of RICHARD, Vicar of
Ramsbury,b:1440..d:1503.
From WILLIAM,d:1587,of Marden ,Wilts to our Williams, they agree.
ROBERT CARPENTER d:1607,Marden,m:Eleanor CARPENTER (cousin)
Children:

swourceChild: WILLIAM 1 of Rehoboth
Richard b:1580 Amesbury,Eng.
Child:WILLIAM 1 of Providence(Pawtuxet) m:ELIZABETH ARNOLD
FRIDGWITH(Bridget) who m:Thomas VINCENT
See :ARNOLD genealogy for further info re: Vincent.
ROBERT above had additional children: Robert,Charles,Alice,John.& Edith.
The 2 Williams cousins.
The CARPENTER/ROGERS paper was originally published by : CARPENTER FAMILY
NEWS JOURNAL(Maqchias,ME.) which I wrote about yesterday. It was changed to
THE EPISTLE ,a more regional paper, and finally to Secon Boat. Editor was
Rosemary Batchelder,of Machias.Perhaps some info can be still available from
them, as Rosemary covered Col SOLOMON CARPENTER of GOSHEN, N.Y. very
thoughorly(??)
Can't think of another thing to say, and don't believe I have left out
anytyhing pertinet.
HAPPY DAZE! Hutch
P>S> I think the above rebuts the ABIGAIL/ABIAH twin situation, which was
caused by transcription confusion in Weymouth,Mass. records, and picked up by
Amos C. in his genealogy. To his credit, a great book, but he did not have the
sources now available.
