Appreciate reading all the words written here as I have time. Have not been
aware of the situation. Genealogically speaking though, am praying James
discovers genealogy whether adopted or not. Would be challenging to
discover one is not. Have wondered if some of mine were since there parents
died very young--twenties--and were also pioneers back in the late 1700s
and early 1800s. Reading some of the LW&T is enlightening, especially when
a ten year old is given to someone because his dad died and he must learn a
trade. From before the colonies began this was a fairly common practice
evidently. Amazing the history of our country one can learn from reading
the records of each era. Side note: I know many intellectuals. Not sure
what the reference concerns. Will try to go back and determine. Hoping
others do not get offended by free speech from anyone. Found it weird of
late that those denying others free speech would rant and rave for having
their own denied, to the point of violence was quite shocking. Last time
that happened I was a child and prayed God would give us peace. He has for
almost 50 years. Praying again for peace and acceptance that others,
anyone, even people I do not necessarily agree with, have the right to
choose life (or death) and speak their minds. Interesting world if we were
all cookie cutter kinds of people.

Gene, I'm mostly a lurker, and Canadian to boot! You were wonderfully
supportive and helpful while I was researching the ancestry of my American
born grandfather, who turned out to be a descendent of Carpenters from both
Rehoboth and Rhode Island.
I so appreciated your comments about keeping the list to genealogy. As a
liberal Canadian, many of the non-genealogy posts of late have been a
distraction at best, and offensive at worst. I've hoping that your earlier
comments could have steered the list towards genealogy-only posts. I'm
sure I'm not the only subscriber who feels this way, and perhaps I should
have entered this discussion earlier. I stayed out, not wanting to
contribute to the "life-view" discussion.
Thank you so much for all you have done for Carpenter descendants,
including this Canadian!
