Last night I was researching the notes of John Blankenbaker about the
Germanna Colony in VA. If I remember correctly, the dates of the colonies
were 1709 for the first and 1718 for the second. These were Germans whose
names began as "Zimmerman." Some anglicanized their names to Carpenter,
some did not.
These were not the only mentions of these surnames, but best fit what I was
looking for:

Harry, was it you that asked one time about the Rev William
Zimmerman? This is where he entered the picture. I'm thinking I read last
night that he had no heirs--but I was up late, so it's a bit of a blur.
These German Zimmermans and Carpenters do not seem to tie into the family
of our ancestor George Sr this side of the Atlantic.
