Hi John:
Yes, I will send the full transcript of the NYHS abstract of Nehemiah's
1783 will, maybe over the weekend if I can get to it.
Meanwhile, you asked about when it was proved; the 1783 will was executed
June 16, 1783, and proved July 25 1783. So for once we know pretty darned
closely just when was the death. You can change your 1821 death straight
away. (Not only does the will show he died in 1783, but it is clear that
the a8321 death is another case of confused Nehemiahs; the odds against two
Nehemiah Carpenters in the same town dying on the very same date is
astronomical.)
There is a general Nehemiah confusion, that am confident is an outgrowth
of the general Solomon confusion. I'm going to soon be re-reading ABC and
Seversmith and ADCSC, and whatever (AGAIN!) to try to piece together what
seems most probable among the various accounts. Any suggestions or
assertions most welcome.
Meanwhile, please try to answer me this: If the "other" Nehemiah (ABC's
#307) was "later found to have married a Phebe," what then is the source of
the later finding?
