Dear Bruce,
I have Edward le Carpentier b. abt 1275/1280 as a Wine Merchant and
related as either a brother or first cousin to John le Carpentier - Ship
Merchant.
Edward has a father listed as Jean le Carpentier, b. abt 1250, who was
listed as Lord of Daniel et Avesnes les Aubert, Du Nord, France. He
seemed to be involved in all sort of Merchant Goods from or to the city
of Tillent Lambert in present day Belgium.
Most of this data is from Joseph Hatten Carpenter's notebook.
Part (wierd as it may seem) is from something called "Stealing the
Staple" per my notebook in 1997 where historical figures from the 13th
Century are roll played in a game format. Lord Jean le Carpentier, b
1253, was a noted as a "international merchant of all goods shipped."
Tillent Lambert was his base of operations in the game. He was the only
Carpenter/Carpentier mentioned.
Strange coincidence or what?

| Was he the John Carpenter of Leskard?"
The original document indicates that John was
a long term merchant for Spanish interests, and
likely for the Spanish king himself.
These Cornwall Johns should be the same. I would suspect
that the Spain trader John Carpenter was the same.
Brother of Edward le Charpenter?
