I'm new to this list and I'm hoping someone, somewhere has heard of BRAXTON
CARPENTER, b: ca. 1801, VA (possibly Lancaster Co.) and JOEL CARPENTER, b:
1813, Lincoln Co., NC. These are from 2 different lines. Briefly:
Braxton Carpenter was supposedly orphaned at a very early age and was taken
in by Thomas Bottoms. Thomas took Braxton to Lincoln Co., TN by the early
1820s. Around 1833, Braxton married Sarah (some say Phillips others say
King). By 1850, Braxton and Sarah had moved to Limestone Co., AL. Both
Braxton and Sarah died after 1880 in Marion Co., AL. They had the following
"known" children: James Robert, b: ca. 1834 - Mary Etta, b: ca. 1836 -
Sarah, b: ca. 1841 - George W., b: ca. 1844 - Susan V., b: ca. 1845 - Martha,
b: ca. 1849 - and Narcissy Evalin, b: 1855 (my ancestor).
Joel Carpenter, b: June 5, 1813, Lincoln Co., NC and was the son of Daniel T.
Carpenter. Joel married Sarah Elizabeth HOVIS in 1835, Lincoln Co., NC.
This family moved to Lincoln Co., TN and was there for the 1860 census.
However, in the 1870 Lincoln Co., TN Sarah was listed without Joel. I am
trying to find out when, where, and how Joel died. I had "assumed" he died
during the Civil War, but I cannot locate information to prove or disprove
this theory.
I welcome any and all information and will gladly share what I have gathered
on either or both of these families.
Thanks in advance. (I apologize for the length of this email!)
