Dear Bruce,
Since you have the Brewer's transciption, can you transcribe it for the
Carpenters' Forum and mark the missing passages? (underline or bold?)
This would help current & future researchers tremendously!
If you have a scanner you could scan the will if you do not have time to
type it. This way ALL can benefit.
Sincerely,
John R. Carpenter

While reading through Brewers transcription
of Kathrine Carpenter's 1458 Will, I came upon a passage
mentioning her husband John's "brothers and sisters."
When I went back to find the identical passage in
Amos Carpenter's Carpenter Memorial, I discovered
that ole Amos had left it out, along with other copius
portions of the orginal in Brewer. This means that all the
happy Carpenter genealogy researchers for over a hundred
years were denied crucial material because the Brewer
book itself was a extremely rare book, that few (if any), American
Carpenters have seen in the last one hundred years since Amos.
I have made this point many times- anything said about
pre 1638 Carpenter history by these old timers is usually
dubious.
Cordially,
Bruce Carpenter
