Subject: Stepstone, Bath Co., Kentucky
I have gotten some information from distance relatives that some of our
ancestors came from Stepstone, Bath Co. (formerly Montgomery Co.),
Kentucky. Stepstone is not on the map of Kentucky that I have. Does any
one know what other town it was located close to?

First--we're from the same line if your ancester is Michael Carpenter. More
on that later. Second--Stepstone is east of Mount Sterling, Montgomery
Co.,KY on the county line with Bath County. Now look at Owinsville, the
county seat of Bath Co. draw a line about 4 miles southwest of Owinsville to
the vicinity of the county line and the intersection of the lines from Mt.
Sterling and Owinsville will be the approximate position of Stepstone.
Some of the Carpenter family spead to surrounding counties after leaving
Stepstone. My ancesters moved to Morgan County (West Liberty). Other
Carpenters migrated to points west, including: Oklahoma, Indiana, and Iowa,
just to list a few.
Now--Jeanine--do you have information that will help move the family history
back beyond Michael. Family verbal history has the family surname as
Zimmerman, changing to Carpenter (maybe late 1700 to early-1800s). Do you
have info to share? Can we collaborate?
