Hi Patty,
I'm interested in hearing more about your line. Could you provide names of the
children of Fielding and Delphia? Did there happen to be a Fredrick or a
William? If so, do you have info re: birth and where they may have settled?

Good morning list,
I have been working on my CARPENTER line for about five or so years. I tend
to research it on and off. Too many dead ends. I have found that some of
the family have been mentioned in the 'Germanic' records of VA. I have a
book of this topic < 'Germanic records of Virginia' > but can't not
locate
it at the moment. I *think* my line is of German origin and perhaps of the
'Zimmerman' line at one time. But can not prove it, yet. My earliest
Carpenter is James CARPENTER b. ca. 1715 in NC. He went by that same
surname; 'CARPENTER'. How early was the name 'Carpenter' used rather
than 'Zimmerman'? I know 'Zimmerman' means 'carpenter' in German
but still
am searching when it was changed over. I don't think this particular line
is part of the French 'Charpentier' line, though anything is possible. :-)
And I'm open to all possibilities.
Please accept my apology if this particular line has been discussed
previously. I've been subbed to this list for a few years but have not
seen this line mentioned as yet.
My earliest CARPENTER is my GGG Grandfather Fielding CARPENTER: His birth
stats:
1 Fielding CARPENTER 1767 - 1853 b: Abt. 1767 in Orange,
Surry Co. , NC d: June 25, 1853 in Quicksand, Breathitt Co.,
KY
+Delphia WARD_BRAGG < last name debatable and unsure_have
seen both surnames used, though I found 'WARD', first. > 1780 -
1870 b: Abt. 1780 in Va d: Bet. 1870 - 1880 in Fredville,Magoffin,Ky in
the John and Rebecca Carpenter Wireman cemetery to our Carpenter family
cemetery in Fredville, Magoffin Co., KY. m: Abt. 1798 in Morristown,
Hawkins Co. TN
His parents were < but not 100% proven > Stephen P. Carpenter 1740 - b:
Abt. 1740 in North Carolina +Rebecca COLLINS 1742 - b: Abt. 1742
in North Carolina
And his Grandparent's were_but not 100% proven were: James
CARPENTER 1715 - b: Abt. 1715 in NC ? m.
Unk.
Sources include census' of Breathitt, Magoffin, Clay , Rockcastle counties
KY, Orange Co, NC, various TN county sources, courthouse records of
aforementioned counties, birth and death records, family oral history, ect.
I have a will of Yelberton/Yelverton Carpenter who *may* have either been a
brother or cousin of Fielding since they were in the same place at the same
time and his will lists a lot of the same family < first> names < William,
Stephen, George, James, ect. > . Yelberton/Yelverton is listed in the
Germanic records of Virginia as is Fielding, though I don't think it is
*my* Fielding. These unusual names were not carried on in subsequent
Carpenter generations but once or twice in Fielding's son and grandson in
first and middle names.
Does anyone happen to have this same family lineage? I know the information
is scant, but I didn't want to include the *entire* thousand or so
individuals that descend from Fielding and Delphia in this e-mail.
I'd be happy to share the rest of the family data, pictures, wills, ect., I
have with anyone who is related and who can help solve the 'rest of the
story' of the family of Fielding and Delphia.
Thanks so much,
Patty Hopkins-Baldwin
