Some of us have experience with Vt. Carpenter
history. We could help you if you stated everything you know
about John. If he was born 1n 1797 he was (1) from a VT.
Carpenter first family from Rehoboth. There were just a few of those, my
own from Peter Carpenter for example. If he was a Rehoboth Carpenter
it is odd his was unaccounted for. (2) He was a royalist and his father
snuck
back into Vt. from Canada after the Revolution under an assumed name.
Hey, everybody has a past! (3) Father newly arrived from England, or came
just
before the Revolution. etc.
A good candidate for John is the son of Stephen (Amos Carpenter no. 1908).
Brother Samuel' children went to Michigan from Vt. Check your family
member's
fingerprints. If the prints show concentric circles as opposed to swirl
configurations
on some fingers, then they have Indian ancestry, as did that John Carpenter
from VT.
Sincerely,
Bruce Edwin Carpenter
