Subject: John in Vermont
Regarding Carpenter's in Vermont: There was a Knight Carpenter -
b 1769
Cranston, RI - lived in Vermont in 1790, 1800, 1810. Sons born in
Vermont
were William b 1797 and Jesse b 1800. It is assumed that his nephew,
Caleb Carpenter followed him to Vermont. Caleb's sons born in
Vermont were John b abt. 1797 and Dyer b 1799. Caleb's father and
Knight's brother was John Carpenter M Sarah Jenks. This John
Carpenter
(m to Sarah Jenks) was son of William Carpenter and Comfort King of
Rhode
Island. Caleb does not stay in Vermont. His migration pattern after
Vermont
is Chenango Co., New York (where his parents are in the early
1800's),
Genesse County (later to become Wyoming Co.), New York, Richland Co.,
Ohio,
and finally Seneca Co., Ohio - not much grass grew under his feet. I
hope
for more
information on this John b abt 1797 in Vermont. One person suggests
that he married a Miriam Smith and that they lived in Java, New York.
We
have not been able to find solid sources to substantiate this.
I'm just
fishing here - checking the waters - checking to see if anyone has
any
insight.
Thanks for reading this..........Penny
