King Hugues Capet gave it (Melun) to Bouchard, his favorite. Under the
reign of Robert, Eudes, the count of Champagne, bought the city, and the
king took it back for the viscount in the year 999. Le Chatelain and
his wife, who had sold the city, were hung. Melun, ancient family (or
household).
1. The first of this household... is Josselin I. by name, viscount of
Melun, who reigned among the great lords in the court of kings Hughes
Capet, and Robert. In 998, he gave the village of Noisy-le-Sec to the
monestary of Saint Maur-des-Fossez, where he took upon himself the
monk's habit, and where he died March 19, (no year)...
(IS THIS BOUCHARD - Josselin I?

Bouchard "the old" Vendome was very rich and bought many titles. He was
married up to 5 times (I know of two) and sired (some claim) a dozen
kids.
"Meaux in the Lyonais" was bought by Bouchard in 992? He gave his
titles to his children and as presents to his son-in-laws. This would
fit with the known Coat of Arms and the relation to Meaux.
TITLES ARE A PAIN IN THE BUTT ... But the relation to Bouchard and
Hughes De France is as cousins. Thus William "the carpenter" would also
be a cousin if he is a descendant of Bouchard.
Bouchard "the old" Vendome-86 may have been Josselin I. by name,
viscount of Melun, who reigned among the great lords in the court of
kings Hughes Capet, and Robert?
Comments? Thoughts?
I would like some constructive input from the Carpenter Forum on this
speculation.

William 'of Sully'

I understand there has been some discussion of the alleged
'disinheritance' of William, the eldest son of count Stephen-Henry and
cts Adela of Blois, Chartres, & Meaux.
...
The basic 'facts' (derived from charters) is that William was designated
principal heir in 1099-1100; prob. came of age around 1103 (Orderic
considered him still a boy to young to fight in 1101); was married to
Agnes of Sully by Nov. 1104 (& most likely in that year--he was not yet
married in 1102/3, a time when he would most likely have been too young
to marry anyway); continued to act as designated principal heir until he
was replaced by his brother Thibaud/Theobald in 1107; and died ca. 1127
(after fathering 5-6 kids).
