Dear Sharilyn,
As you mentioned, Tamsen Carpenter-624 (b. abt 1664) was the daughter of
Joseph Carpenter-619 of William Carpenter-662 of the Providence, RI
branch AND Hannah Carpenter-105 of Captain William Carpenter-584 of the
Rehoboth branch.
Tamsen Carpenter-624 is Number 12 in the book "The Carpenter Family in
America" by Daniel H. Carpenter, 1901.
DEATH: Last recorded information is where she buys 300 acres of woodland
on the Byram River in Westchester county dated 12 May 1706 at White
Plains.
I wonder if she was named after the Tomazin Carpenter-22165 who ventured
to America in 1635? Probably. Was Tamsen so named after Tomazin who may
have died just prior to or around 1664?
This name and the similar name variants probably had a common ancestor.
IF Thamisin FOYCE (wife of Thomas Carpenter) was that common ancestor,
then research eeds to be done in the Broadhembury, Devon, England area.
Thamisin Foyce
Spouse: Thomas CARPENTER
Marriage: 23 Oct 1541 Broadhembury, Devon, England
This may mean her birth was before 1525. Maybe 1520ish.
The IGI has nothing similar and a search of Devon for Foyce also was
negative. I found Tomasin and variants in Kent but under Honeywood. See
PSS.
Does anyone have anything else? Thoughts?

PS Tomazin & Thomasin - The name is more popular as a last name today
but as seen below, it was a female name here in America.

...
William Smoot Sr. died in 1716; his will named his wife Jane, son-in-law
Thomas Durham and three grandchildren: Margaret, Joseph and Sarah Durham
(the only three Durham children born at the time of Smoot's death). The
fact his will made no mention of the sisters Dorothy, Alice and Thomasin
(Dorothy and Thomasin were still alive) would indicate they probably
were not his daughters. Jane Smoot died in North Farnham Parish on
October 4, 1726.
Alice was born about 1665 and married John Chin (16??-1692)[Corbari] by
whom she had three, possibly four children as named in her 1701 will:
Ann Fox(1682-1729), Catherine Heal, Rawleigh and possibly Jno. Chin. Her
second husband was John Stretchley, Gentleman (ca 1649-1698).
Alice's August 29, 1701 will is confusing in regard to relationships and
lists them as follows:
daughters Ann Fox and Catherine Heal; sister Dorothy Durham; cousin Mary
Dodson; son-in-law Capt. William Fox; Ann Fox's father, Jno. Chin; Ann
Fox's father-in-law Jno. Stretchly; son Rawleigh Chin; sister Tomazin
Marshall". [Lancaster Co. VA Inventories and Wills 1690-1709, vol 8, p.

The change in name from THOMASIN to TOMASIN appears to have happened
between 1830 and 1831 with James who was born and married as THOMASIN
but registered his son Henry as TOMASIN and is himself thereafter
referred to as such . . . . .

Actually I ran into one yesterday. Odd that you should ask right
now. The name struck me because I also research the surname
Jaycocks, and they used the name Tamsen (variously spelled) as
well.
The one I found was Tamsen, born 1664 Pautuxett, Rhode Island,
to Joseph Carpenter (1638-1663) s/o Wm. 1611 and Elizabeth
Arnold, and Hannah Carpenter (1639/40-1673) d/o Wm. 1605 and
Abigail Briante.
She was part of someone else's data base, and I have not had
time to prove her, but I thought this might be interesting to
you since you had inquired about this name. Let me know if you
track down her proof.
