In answer to your inquiry as to the identity of Jonathan Ormsbee and Rebeka
Carpenter:
JONATHAN ORMSBEE, b. at Rehoboth, Mass., 1 May 1705, d. probably at
Cumberland, R.I., after 19 Feb. 1759, son of Jonathan and Mercy (Fitch)
Ormsbee, was the widower of Experience Chaffee (d. ca. 21 August 1729) when
he married at Rehoboth, 15 July 1730, REBECKAH (HAMMOND) CARPENTER, b. at
Rehoboth, 11 October 1707, d. probably at Cumberland, between 1747 and 1758,
daughter of William and Rebecka (Ormsbee) Hammond of Swansea and Rehoboth.
The younger Rebeckah's first marriage, at Attleborough or Rehoboth (rec. both
places), 18 January 1727/8, had been to Michael Carpenter, b. at Rehoboth, 14
October 1701, d. at Attleborough, 28 August 1729, son of William Jr. and
Elizabeth (Robinson) Carpenter. After Rebeckah's death, widower Ormsbee
married third, at Cumberland, 19 February 1759, Ruth Staples, b. at Wrentham,
Mass., 20 August 1728, daughter of Joseph and Hannah (Bartlett) Staples.
Ormsbee's father (Jonathan Sr.) married at Rehoboth, 20 January 1742/3, as
his second wife, Rebeckah's stepmother (her father's third wife), Martha
(Red[a]way) Hammond, b. at Rehoboth, 26 July 1687, daughter of John and Mary
(Ide) (Fuller) Red(a)way.
