Does anyone know if the birth records mentioned below are dependable?
I didn't see any mention of birth records anywhere in the rest of the
message. The closest it came was:
1) George Morton: born in 1585 in Yorkshire, England; died in Jun
1624 ...
and
Juliana CARPENTER (born in 1583 at Bath, Somerset Co.,
England; baptized 7 Mar 1584 at St. James, Bath, England; died 19 Feb 1665...
From the vagueness, it seems clear that George's birth is simply a guess.
Juliana's is apparently also a guess, but is probably very close because
it seems to be based on a baptism record. Unfortunately, the mismatch
between birth and baptism hints that the author of this passage was
merely parroting numbers he pulled from other secondary sources and made
no effort to reconcile the two. *My* guess is that the baptism record
should be reported as 1583[/4] Mar 7, and somebody took the 1583 as
the approximate birth, while somebody else converted the baptism to
a January-style date in 1584. At any rate, it should be simple to
check the baptism records, since they are probably available on
microforms.
