Dear Nancy,
I am sorry but no match.
I will forward this message to the Carpenter Roots Forum that I am on in
hopes that someone will recognize the name. (SEE DATA BELOW!)
I searched on line and found only one researcher interested in Barber
Carpenter. You may have his name, but it is included below.
John R. Carpenter

Daniel W. Howe (---)

Mr. Carpenter,
Could you tell me if your CD has a Barber Carpenter on it? Information I
have says he was born 3-21-1777 in Mass but I've also seen his birth
date listed as 8-26-1777 in NY. I first find him on the 1779 tax of the
Town of Delhi, Delware County, NY next to a William Carpenter. He is also
listed on the 1820 census for the Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, NY. An
Abner Carpenter is also listed on that Census. By the 1850 census he is
living with his son Ira B. in Bingham Township, Potter County, PA. He is
listed as 72 years old and born in Mass. He died 1-17-1855 in Bingham
Township. He married Elinor Bronson about 1802. She was born about 1782
in NY according to the 1850 Census. She died 7-6-1862 in Bingham
Township, Potter County, Pa.
I can find lots of Barbers and Carpenters in Milford, Worchester, Mass
living near each other and inter-marrying but I can find no one with a
given name of Barber.
The following is from a biography of his son Ira B.
"IRA B. CARPENTER, farmer, P. O. Bingham Center, was born in Dryden.
Tompkins Co., N.Y., March 27,1823, a son of Barber and Eleanor (Bronson)
Carpenter, natives of Massachusetts, who settled in Bingham township in
1838, on the farm now owned and occupied by our subject, and resided in the
township until their death. They had eleven children who grew to maturity:
Theodorus, William, Melissa (Mrs. Peter Teeter), Selden, Mary (Mrs. Francis
Drake),, Bethiah (Mrs. Amos R. Lewis), Matilda (Mrs. G. W. Lewis), Arvilla
(Mrs. Alonzo Mudge), Irena (Mrs. Wm. Knapp), Ira B. and Cordelia (Mrs. S.
K. Niles). Ira B. Carpenter was sixteen years of age when he came to
Bingham township, and he now occupies the old homestead of his father,
which he assisted in clearing and improving."
I've hit a brick wall on my Carpenter line. I would greatly appreciate
any help and would love to have a copy of your CD if it includes my
Carpenter line.
Thank you,
Nancy Bittler
