Myfamily.com web sites need an invitation and you also need to be a member.
What is needed is a Y-DNA test or two to narrow which Carpenter line this
belongs to.
I have attached a text file for what I have on this line.
See below for what I have on Daniel G. Carpenter-18314 and his 2 known
children and those speculated.

Alfred Madison Carpenter / Roxie Carpenter ca 1830
Posted by: bonnie Kershaw (ID *****1214) Date: February 07, 2005
I am looking for info on my great-grandfather, Alfred Madison Carpenter,
born in NY
Mar 24, 1830. Supposedly he was the youngest of 10 siblings. The oldest was
a sister
named Roxie. His mother was born in RI. I would love to have info on his
parents and
siblings. I am willing to share info on his descendents (I have quite a
bit).__Please
respond or email me directly at bkershaw(a)direcway.com__Thanks,_Bonnie
Kershaw
Now at: Bonnie Kershaw < bkershaw(a)sbcglobal.net >
More comments from Bonnie on topic line above ...
Then last summer, I got in touch with cousins previously unknown to me who
confirmed Alfred Madison's birth date, but said he was the youngest of 10
children.
His oldest siser's name was Roxey (or Roxie), and that had been married
previously
in New York, but that spouse's name was not known.
...
I reread my family data, and his first wife's first name was Nettie, but the
last name is
not known. He moved to Iowa in 1864, and that was after his first wife's
death. Also,
family data indicates he was born in Madison Co, NY. His oldest sister,
Roxey Ann
Carpenter, was married to a man whose last name was Luther, and they had a
son
named Oras Luther.__I may try to find something on the death of Nettie
Carpenter
between 1845 and 1864, figuring he would be 15 at least before marrying. I
also may
try finding marriage data on ___Luther and Roxey Ann Carpenter somewhere in
the
1820-1840 time range, figuring if she was the oldest of 10, she may have
been 10-20
years older than Alfred._...
TLC: Thanks for the additional detail -- it's very helpful. In Madison Co.
NY in 1850
there is an Asa Luther with wife Roxy Ana. She was age 37, born c1813 in NY.
They
have three children, Esther A. Luther (born c1834), Mary Luther (c1839), and
son
Oremus Luther (c1841). This looks like A.M.'s sister. If so, the lead to
Madison Co. NY
appears accurate, which narrows down the search a lot._...
TLC: The 1870 census also adds more clues:__1870 Madison Co. NY, Lebanon_
Ashel Luther, 67, NY_Roxy A. Luther, 56, NY_Ester A. Luther, 37, NY_Orsamus
Luther, 26, NY_Nancy Carpenter, 74, NY, "at home"_Rose Sweetland, 50, NY,
"at
home"_Daniel Sweetland, 13, NY, "at school"__Ashel should probably be
Asahel.
__Nancy Carpenter, born ca. 1796, if the census record is accurate, would be
old
enough to be Roxy A.'s mother if she married young, age 17-18. Her and Rose
Sweetland's annotation as "at home" implies they are living with
relatives._...
Terry,_Thanks again for your efforts to help me.__The info on Nancy puts her
at
roughly the same age (within a year or 2) of W. Carpenter mentioned in the
1860
census. I suppose it is possible that Nancy and W were married and were
Roxey's
parents. Perhaps W. died between 1860 and 1870. If they were married,
though,
wouldn't it be reasonable to expect to see both their names as living in the
household
with Roxy and family in 1860? I wonder if the 1860 census shows Nancy
anywhere in
the area, maybe with another of the 10 children that were supposedly in
family._..._
TLC: Every little detail provides a lead. The 1860 census shows them again
in
Madison Co. NY:__Asel Luther, age 57, born in VT, a farmer_Roxana Luther,
47,
NY_Orsemus D. Luther, 18, NY_W. Carpenter, 65, NY__Asel might properly be
Asahel.__W. Carpenter is about old enough, if the census is accurate, to be
Roxana's father. If he married at age 18, that would have been ca. 1813 -
the year
she appears to have been born. Or he could be an older brother, a cousin, or
some
other relation living with them in his elderly years.
Alfred married (MRIN:47539) Maria Priscilla Schoonover-134230 2 on 28 Oct
1871 in Vinton, Benton, IA. Maria was born on 24 Mar 1850/1851 in ,, WI. She
was christened in Of,, OH. She died about 1933 in Holyoke, Phillips, CO. She
was buried in Cem., Kensington, Smith, KS.
NAME: Mariah in 1900 US Census. Born Mar 1850. 6 children born, 5 living.
27
years married.
BIRTH: In the 1880 US Census birth location is OH. In the 1900 US Census,
it is WI.
The 24 Mar 1851 birth date in the IGI has WI as birth state. The 1900 US
Census has
March 1850.
Both Maria and her husband have the same birth date as 24 March???
A Rachelle Cromer on Ancestry has birth locations as "Fall River,WI or
Hardin Co.,OH"

1813/1820 in ,, NY. He had other parents. This connection is speculated
only.
PARENTS: His parents were both born in NY. He had a brother, name unknown,
probably James. That brother married and his daughter (Daisy is listed as 8
months
old and born in CO) was living with Daniel D. Carpenter's family in the 1880
US
Census in Montana. Just above Niece Daisy is a Laura Carpenter listed as a
Daughter in law - not Sister in law. By default, she is the wife of Frank.

(
http://www.myfamily.com/isapi.dll?c=content&htx=list&siteid=Z4DOA...
goryid=381) I may have FINALLY after 30+ years found a home for
Daniel DeWitt Carpenter!! I thought that his father was Daniel and his
mother Patience. However, that information may now be wrong. I now
think that his parents may have been Daniel Carpenter and Nancy (Ann)
English.
And that his grandfather was Elijah who was married to Patience
Salisbury.
My only problem is that I can only find two children for Daniel and Ann
although I am sure there were more children. The two that I found were 9
years apart in age. They were born in Madison County, New York though and
Daniel DeWitt Carpenter was alleged to have been born in Oswego County. I
do believe the two counties are next to each other though. Is that right,
John? Daniel DeWitt Carpenter was born c. 1819 and Daniel and Ann's two
children I found were born in 1818 and 1827.
I believe Daniel DeWitt also served in Co A, 124th Infantry for New York
during the Civil War from the County of Oswego. He was already living in
Wisconsin and married for about 20 years when the Civil War took place and
served for a year at the age of 41.
I did trace his wife's (Emma Emerson Logan) family back to Oneida County,
New York.
