Dennis,
What time period was Rev. H. S. Carpenter living? You mention 150 years
later, yet from 2000 this would about 1850. New Utrecht was organized by
1660, became part of King County about 1683 and annexed by the city of
Brooklyn in 1894 and by the City of New York in 1898.
Based on the above and guessing ...
I believe the person you are looking for is:
Rev. Hugh Smith Carpenter-128688 (b. 1824 d. 1899) - Please see the
attached text file. His ancestry is from William Carpenter-584 (b. abt
1605 England d. 1658/1659 Rehoboth, MA) from the Rehoboth Carpenters.
I hope this helps.

Subject: [CARPENTER] Reverand H.S. Carpenter of New Utrecht Long Island
Does anyone have any information on the Rev. H.S. Carpenter from the village
of New Utrecht (now Brooklyn NY) Long Island, NY.
While doing research on my father's maternal line, the Van Brunt family I
came across an old map of New Utrecht showing the property layout with the
landholders names on it. On the opposite corner from D. Van Brunt was the
Rev. H.S. Carpenter. Since I know that descendents of William of Providence
were early settlers of Long Island I am curious if he is from that line or
of the line out of Rehoboth.
If he is from the Providence line as am I, I find it interesting that our
lines should have surely met only to finally unite some 150 years later and
hundreds of mile further west in Michigan.
Best regards,
