John,
Nicholas Carpenter of North Waterborough Maine, got a similar deal as a
Revolutionary War vet. 160 acres in North Waterborough Maine.
Maybe this was a way of paying back wages by the Colonies and was given
to many of the vets.
The source for me was York County records in Alfred, Maine. Has the
land grant info and a map which is how I found his grave marker on his
own land.
