Bob,
We all know that the 900 page Carpenter Memorial has mistakes, but it is
still a remarkable book. More then than today. But still useful.
When looking at what it indicates on Ezra ...
Number 3502 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 399.
Family on page 587 (# 975). Per a note on page 587, this family was sent to
the compiler of the above record, by letter in 1848 by Mary Goodrich of
Whitehall, NY.
Born 1757 per the CM. He settled in Hanover, NH and united with the Church
there. His name with the names of his oldest children can be found on the
church records. He died at Whitehall, NY, in 1812, aged 55 per the CM.
Have you researched the genealogy of Mary Goodrich of Whitehall, NY? If you
find her papers, you may find more on your Carpenter line. Copies of
letters, bible info and such.
Ruth Canton (ebrwcatton(a)aliens.com) wrote in 2000 ...
Horace Carpenter, born in New Hampshire (?Hanover), married "Mrs. Maria
Lockwood" Whitehall, NY, August 20, 1833. They are found in Rochester,
Racine County, Wisconsin in the 1850 census, with 6 children.
Ruth Canton and Pam Berger (Berger(a)netstream.net) were communicating in
2002.
He ... united with the Church there ... Have you found out which Church was
there in the late 1700s and if there records are available? Often people
return home to be buried.
They also mentioned book that contained Carpenters ...

"An Ecclesiastical Book Belonging to the First Presbyterian Church of
Whitehall"
1822-1835?
(From Sleeper News, vol. 2, no. 2; vol. 2, no. 3; vol. 2, no. 4 and vol. 3,
no. 1. Copyright 1998.)
The following is a copy of an old book, marked on the cover "Infant Baptisms
and Marriages," and on the fly leaf "Memorandum of Baptisms and Marriages in
the First Presbyterian Society of Whitehall--and occasional instances
elsewhere--administered by me from my first settlement in the Gospel
Ministry. Aug. 7, 1822."
Signed: John R. COE
The book is just above a hundred years old. It is very well preserved, and
the writing is exceedingly bright. It is exactly the same size as this page,
and about half an inch thick, with plain, rather thick paper, such as they
used to prefer for quill pens. The cover is pasteboard with imitation
leather back and corners.
You may have already done all of this, but it is at least a good review.
In addition, Max & Mary Roha (RohasArk(a)cs.com) were working on part of this
line back in the 1990s and early 2000s. The following info is from Ezras
son Ezra Carpenter-24537 and indicates sources.

It probably could not hurt to see if Max and Mary (Chapman) Roha are still
active and willing to communicate. There is a related private tree on
Ancestry. See:

I hope this helps.

Happy New Year to all....Stay Healthy
With another thought, I am hoping someone might be able to help with a
quandry I have come across and will accept any or all suggestions.
My family member,Ezra Carpenter was born 1759 Tolland,Connecticut and
married Anna Fuller in 1779. Shortly thereafter moved to Hanover,New
Hampshire. I find a few things here and there, when living there. Some time
later they moved to Whitehall,New York. The trail stops. The next things I
find and that is in Rehoboth Branch of the Carpenter Family death of each
1812 and 1826-7.
Contacting people in Whitehall and they donot find anything. All records of
death originated in the above with no evidence to back it up.
Where do I go and where do I look?
Does anyone have suggestions?
Sincere thanks,
Bob Carpenter
