Yelverton is a last name of note, in Orange Co. NY. Would be surprised if
this is not the origin of your Yelverton, the place was early settled by
Carpenters from Long Island and other points north.

My great grandmother on my mothers side was Catherine Carpenter B. ca.
1838-39 in Indiana. Her mother and father were born in Indiana. She
married Jacob Amerson Laney B. 1832. They married in Iowa sometime after
the 1860 census was taken. I have a list of their children but have not
been able to find out who Catherine's parents were. Does anyone have
information on them? This is my line:
Catherine Carpenter B. 1838-39 Indiana, m. Jacob Amerson Laney B. 1832
Eve Laney B. Oct. 1872 Iowa, m. Robertson Robinson B. 1856 Ireland
Martha Jane Robinson b. 19 Aug. 1898 m. Columbus C. McCain
Elsie M. McCain (me) m. John V. White
I would appreciate any help anyone can give me on Catherine Carpenter.

Due to health and other reasons, am attempting to finalize my research on my
CARPENTER ancestors. Oldest CARPENTER ancestor I have was Yelverton (Yelberton
in will) CARPENTER born 177?, died 1848 Claiborne Co TN, will dated 15 Jun
1848 Hawkins Co TN.

Can you share additions/corrections/questions/documentations to Yelverton
and/or his
ancestors? Thanks. -- Bill Waller
Thanks to Terry and John, we have established that J. B. (otherwise known as Jerome) is a brother to my greatgrandfather Arthur Wellington Carpenter and that their father is Alonzo Curtis Carpenter. I will post more detail on this later when I have a chance to get it all organized. Thanks, guys, for your help. This has been an awesome breakthrough for us and has re-energized me. Thanks again.

Dear Listers,
I just learned that one of my cousins (and a long time ago member of this
list) passed away in Dec 2005. It is with sorrow to relay the news that
after serving our country for a life time, fighting for freedom including
civil service and putting up a terrific fight against cancer, BILL LIPHAM
succombed to the dreaded disease. Family research was important to him as
he was also a member of SAR and left a copy of his research. (See below).
His direct line was not CARPENTER, but his great great grandpa was brother
to Thomas Newton LIPHAM who married Lucinda CARPENTER.
William Morris "Bill" LIPHAM b: 1932 Cullman, AL
d: 2005 Dec 31 in Arundel Co. MD
MILITARY (AIR FORCE) -
WWII OCCUPATION GERMANY, KOREAN WAR, VIETNAM WAR
** Joined the SONS OF AMERICAN REVOLUTION (SAR)
Petition number 155122, Georgia State Society, State # 3469.
Perhaps some of you all knew Bill. If not, you really missed something. He
was always ready and willing to cheerfully help a cousin gene buff, even
when he was very weak. He did leave a copy of his research on the LIPHAMs
with me and maybe with some of you. His son has said that I may share it
with those LIPHAMs looking for family ties. Please email me privately at "
dcuzze(a)earthlink.net "
Please say a small prayer in honor of his service, his family and his life.
Thank you,

Carl,
Did your J. B. Carpenter die about 1892? If so, he may be Jacob Bockee
Carpenter b. abt 1849 ,, NY. Number 4430 on page 470 in the CARPENTER
MEMORIAL.
I assume he survived the Civil War? Otherwise I may have another
possibility.
Using just J as the first name, I have several other possibilities.
Can you provide any more information?

The www.GermanGenealogyGroup.com website has a new free, searchable
database.
German Evangelical Reformed Church

This database contains an index of Brides and Grooms covering the years
1852-1860. It is a work in progress and more years will be added as the work
is completed.
<< I am persuaded from much email traffic on this list over the years that
we don't really know how [London Town Clerk] John Carpenter's family may
relate to any of ours. But some unproven connection is plausible--maybe even
probable, if you like. >>
"Probable" (or even "plausible") on what grounds? We are presently unable
to trace the Rehoboth Carpenters--of Shalbourne, Wiltshire/Berkshire, England
(and briefly of Wherwell, Hampshire, on a straight line between Shalbourne
and Southampton, their point of embarkation)--beyond William1 (b. ca. 1576),
whose presence at Shalbourne is implied by the identification of William2 (b.
ca. 1605) as "Jr." in the baptismal record of son Samuel (the first of two of
that name, he was baptized at Shalbourne on 1 March 1636[/7] and buried there
20 April 1637). This being the case, a proposed connection to the London
town clerk strikes me not as impossible (anything is possible) but as
improbable and implausible.

Hello Carpenters:
My sister has just found the web site for the City of London
School, originally funded from the estate of John Carpenter, Town Clerk of
London who died in 1442. I am persuaded from much email traffic on this
list over the years that we don't really know how John Carpenter's family
may relate to any of ours. But some unproven connection is
plausible--maybe even probable, if you like.
So for those anyone interested, here's the web link to the CLS
History page that describes the Carpenter origins (and much more).
