As far as Y DNA is concerned, it is only your father's line that
counts. That is why the Y DNA projects are organized around surnames.
It was appropriate for you to join the Owen project, but it would be
inappropriate to join the Carpenter project. If you want to explore
the Carpenter connection with Y DNA, you'll have to find a male cousin
whose surname is Carpenter. For example, if your mother has a brother
who is living, you could ask him to give a DNA sample for testing. He
would have the same Y DNA as your Carpenter grandfather.

Hello List,
We have 135 FTDNA members with about 10 others for about 145 members for the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project.
For the fence sitters and those that need a little extra incentive, The Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project offers a few gift certificates from FTDNA. See details in the newsletter below.
Y-DNA is a way to narrow your Carpenter/Zimmerman search. If your Y-DNA (male descendants only) matches one of the organized groups, this gives you genetic matches and genetic cousins to compare notes with. Not having to look at the "other" Carpenter/Zimmerman lines saves time and money.
If you have any questions, let me know!

So far as I know, no authoritative source provides any name whatsoever for
Alexander Carpenter's wife (see, for example, Robert Charles Anderson, _The
Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England, 1620-1633_, 3 vols. [Boston,
1995], 1:208, 313-14). A valuable new reference volume--Martin E. Hollick,
_New Englanders in the 1600s: A Guide to Genealogical Research Published
Between 1980 and 2005_ (Boston, 2006)--has an Alexander Carpenter entry that
lists Burton W. Spear, _Search for the Passengers of the Mary & John 1630_, 27
vols. to date (Toledo, Ohio, 1985- ), 18:29-31, 27(1999):10-12. I haven't seen
these pages, but you might check them out.

Need information on Alexander CARPENTER and his ancestors.
He was born abt 1560 and was from Wrentham, Somerset Co, England
and apparently died abt 1612 Leyden, Holland, Netherlands. Did
he marry Priscilla DILLEN -- I descend from his daughter, Alice
through her second husband, Governor William Bradford.
Would appreciate anything on the ancestor of Alexander or
the ancestor of his wife, DILLEN.

Hello Fran,
You wrote, "The big debate in the family was if our line was English, German
or French. All I know is my Great Great grandfather was born in NY. I can't
even find where he died. I know he was in KS but after the 1880's I have no
record of his or his wife's death. Also I don't know what happened to 4 of
his kids for sure."
If you have a literal living male descendant of your Carpenters, Y-DNA can
help. Starting at $99.00 for the 12 marker test, Y-DNA can help narrow your
search window. If your living male Carpenter matched one of the organized
groups in the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project, that would be a big help in
your research. Matching one of the main groups would provide genetic
cousins to compare lineage notes with.
Posting your data here (the email Carpenter rootsweb) and on the online
Carpenter forums several times each year can not hurt. Remember to include
as much information that is needed for a search. Birth, even if estimates,
locations, marriage dates and locations, death date and location, wife info
and children names all help. See:
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.carpenter&m=3162
and

I hope this helps.
Merry Christmas!

Hi, I have just found some new info on a son of Richard Carpenter of Fleming County KY, The sons name is Daniel Carpenter He married Nancy Mildred Carter abt 1811, The info I got is his LWT ,It came from a gentelman who lives in Ky and works a Newspaper I think. He sent me a little part of the LWT and will be sending me the rest in full as he is able to. The Will lists his children by name and his wife Mildred whom he left sometime abt 1846,Because there is an Equity hearing filed in the Courts of Fleming County in 1846 by Mildred . I am looking for anyone connected to this line of Carpenters, I was helped by many kind persons from the list earlier in the year in finding this person who got the LWT for me. I was also contacted by a Gentlemen who stated that he had participated in the YDNA project and was connected to the Rehoboth Carpenters, His line is from Richard Carpenter of Fleming County who came there in abt 1794 and built his farm, This line is also connected with Wallingford Methodist Church which used to be Carpenters Chapel, I have pictures of a plaque that says the year inwhich it was made Wallingford Methodist Church and that in 1920 something, that Richard Carpenter Grandson of John Carpenter and Rachel Hinton donated the land for the new church to be built. I would love to hear from anyone connected to this line. Bye 4 now.
Jerry
