Wasn't Harry Rogers from Abingdon? Poor Harry became swept up in the
'Carpenters as Descendants of Gentry-Coat of Arms Mania'. He didn't realize
the people he should have studied lived around the corner. I suspect because
they worked for a living they weren't worth his notice.

My research on Providence William is still unfinished, but I still want to
share a few possible surprises. His great grandfather according to my
interpretation would have been a William Carpenter who resided late in life
in Culham, co.Oxford. This town was basically the outskirts of Abingdon, co.
Berkshire, directly across the Thames. William
had three sons, William, Robert and Richard, named in his 1597 PCC will.
Richard's name comes up again in his brother's 1637 PCC will along with wife
Alice and son Thomas. Richard's son William was born in 1615 in Steventon,
not far from the above locations. If this William proves to be Providence
William, then he would have been roughly 25 years old on arrival in
Massachusetts and would have married a girl fairly older than himself.
Suspicions might heighten when you remember how Providence William outlived
all his friends, himself passing in 1680 or thereabouts. If someone can
disprove what I have said about William's 1615 birth I would appreciate it
greatly.
There is no good clue as of yet as to the father of the 1597 will William.
Surely he was born 1550ish. I would surmise he was the brother of Great
Coxwell Henry Carpenter. This would make Rehoboth William his second cousin.
I would also surmise that Providence William's father inherited his father's
Amesbury land after his 1597 death, moved there and married, but perhaps did
not stay.
According to all the documents associated with this Abingdon Carpenter line,
they had lots of assets. If Wiiliam of Providence was their heir he would
have arrived in Massachusetts with good investment capital. This might
explain his good catch in the marriage market. William Arnold was after all
a well to do business man in the plantation.
All of this just in the beginning stage.

We have been searching for Fannie Farrow b. MN in the late 1860's d. Iowa 1894 and for her birth family. Recently, I recieved a note that indicated that in 1894 her mother was called Mrs Carpenter. Does anyone know of any marraiges between the Farrows/Ferriers and the Carpentor family? Or does anyone have a listing of a baby Fannie Carpenter born around that time?
It may help someone to know that this family was fluent in German/Dutch and may have had ties to a Brethren or Mennonite church.
