Dear Schanca1,
The Ancestral file and the IGI is all that I have seen on this family.
The Carpenter Memorial (1898) by Amos B. Carpenter only lists that he
had a child named Margaret but no spouse is even named. That because she
was mentioned in her Uncles will.
SEE: Number 117 on page 64 of the Carpenter Memorial. He drowned. His
family is on page 94 #62.
Below is the documented submitters on this line. You may want to write
to them. You may also want to list yourself as an interested researcher
since now are noted.
I hope this helps,
John R. Carpenter

I have been trying to prove that I am related to John and Margaret (dau.
of
Hopestill and Patience Holbrook) Leland Carpenter of Medway, Norfolk
Co., MA.
John and Margaret were married 1730 in Sherborn, Middlesex Co., MA and
had 6
children: Margaret(1735), John(1736), Jesse(1739), Patience(1741),
Elizabeth(1745) and Amos (1747). John died in 1753 from drowning,
Elizabeth
died in 1754, and Amos died in 1754.
Patience Carpenter married Moses Pond in 1765. They had 5 children:
Patience
(1762), Betsey (1764), Matilda (1769), Caty (1779), and Moses (1782).
Caty married Isaac W. Blake in 1800 in Medway, Norfolk Co., MA. They
had 5
children: Caty Carpenter Blake (1801), Eliab Farrar Blake (1803),
Charlotte
Blake (1809), Sarah Blackington (listed as Sally in vital records)
(1812) and
Isaac Willard Blake (abt. 1818).
Sarah Blackington married James R. Giles and had my great, great
grandfather
-- George Warren Giles who married Maria A. Guenther in Zumbrota,
Goodhue
Co., MN).
In one of the Carpenter family books that I started browsing through,
John
Carpenter who married Margaret Leland, was listed as having died by
drowing
in 1753, which was the date and cause given for John and Margaret's son,
John. Has anyone else done any research on this family and can help me
out
any? Thanks

I've gotten some interest in the Carpenters who may have participated in the
Underground Railroad. The following site lists all known UGRR participants
by state by county. Some of the names, frustratingly, are only surnames.
Love to hear about the hits.

And what constitutes a "genuine" Carpenter? I may be from the German branch
of Carpenters' but I consider myself a "genuine" Carpenter...
Tom
I too have heard of Carpenter connections to the underground railroad. Family
oral history suggests that my GGGramma and GGGrampa William H. And Alice Annie
Carpenter were involved somehow, but I have yet to prove it.

As well as being a genuine Carpenter and a hppy user of John's CD I also
research the underground railroad. Does anyone know if any of the Carpenters
worked int he Underground Railroad. Quakers are likely as are people who
lives in Penn., NY, parts of New England, and Ohio. Any info appreciated

In finally filing away a very old stack of miscellany, I find a message
from John in NH about "TOMBSTONES IN FRIENDS' CEMETERY CHAPPAQUA NY" by
Francis F. Spies. Among the entries is #670 for Carpenter Young, d. 2 Mar
1836, ae 24y-3m-14d.
I have a Mary Carpenter born in Orange Cty NY, who married an unknown
Young sometime before March 1811 (but no earlier than about 1805). A child
of that union might possibly be this "Carpenter Young" born 1812. Any info
supporting or refuting this possibility would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Carpenters:
I have received an email from a Carpenter, with attachment COMET.EXE,
which Norton's says is infected with a virus. This may have been passed
along inadvertantly, or maybe not. (It did not come through the Carpenter
List; seems maybe someone has picked up addresses from the list and is
direct mailing to us with Carpenter name. Dunno. Maybe.)
Anyway, I recommend you DO NOT OPEN this file if it comes to you.

I am seeking information on my greatgrandfather, Carroll Adair Carpenter. I
have been told he was born in Springfield, IL in March 1898. I have yet to
find him in the census. Carroll married Elmeda Christine Bakken in New
Rockford or Fargo, ND in June 1917. Children are: Kenneth Carmen, Douglas
Franklin and Charles Patrick. I have been told, but haven't confirmed, that
Carroll's father was Charles Abram, b. England, and emigrated to US circa
1890. Have not found anything on Charles Abram as yet, either. Am told
Charles Abram married (widow?) Mattie Jane Edwards, and their children were
Carroll Adair and Cecil. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
