It is impossible to stand in the way of the truth and the facts. Those who
try are
discredited.

I Want
I want ancestors with names like Rudy Montagnard or Mechiznick Von Steuben
or Spetznatz Giafortoni, not Mary Smith or William Johnson.
I want ancestors who went to school, could read and write, purchased land,
left detailed wills (naming a huge extended family as legatees), had their
photographs taken once a year - subsequently putting said pictures in
elaborate acid free albums with names, dates, and places.
I want relatives who managed to bury their predecessors in established,
still-extant (and indexed) cemeteries, with carved voluble and informative
inscriptions on their headstones.
I want family members who wrote memoirs, kept diaries, enlisted in the
military, particularly officers who served in strategically important (and
well documented) skirmishes.
I want relatives who served as Congressional members, judges, councilmen,
school teachers, county clerks, police officers, firefighters.
I want relatives who had their children baptized in recognized houses of
worship, "religiously" wrote in the family Bible, recording every little
event and detailing the familial relationship of every visitor.
I want immigrant progenitors to have arrived only in those years wherein
passenger lists were indexed by the National Archives, to have applied for
citizenship in those jurisdictions which have since established indices.
I want relatives who were patriotic and clubby, joined every patrimonial
society, kept journals, listed all their addresses, dated every piece of
paper they touched and had paintings made of their houses.
I want forebears who were wealthy enough to afford, and keep for
generations, the tribal homestead and left all the aforementioned pictures,
diaries and journals in the library.
But most of all I want relatives I can FIND!

in order to combat the rumor that Carpenters might have a sense of humor, I
feel I must tell you all about the discovery that FL electoral experience
made about the Titanic disaster.
Historians have always wondered why out of the 711 passengers who survived,
703 were Republicans........now we know that it's because Democrats don't
know how to follow arrows.

Marg,
Maybe one has to live in New South Wales to appreciate this relationship
fully. Are we Carpenters related to any important people in Australian
history, so I can brag it up to my friends here in the States? (heh-heh)
George
P.S. Can we maybe be related to Teddy Roosevelt or someone instead?

I believe that political nonsense does not belong on these lists and if it is
going to be allowed I want equal time.
Why don't you admit, that Georgie boy once again, used his father's
appointees to pull him out of a jam? Too bad, Gore didn't have a brother who
was Gov of Tenn!

What are you referring to? I haven't received anything
even vaguely political on this list. Am I missing
getting emails or do you have your lists mixed? Please
forward me the message to which you refer.

Politics aside, "Georgie" is a descendant of William Carpenter of Rehoboth.
The Bush family was old Massachsetts conservative, as were their Carpenter
ancestors. If one no longer enjoys or values these traditions, then one
should at least
defer to them on a Carpenter Family Forum.

I have been finding some exciting material on Carpenter history for the
1500s and plan to post after the New Year. In summary Richard Carpenter was
the assistant of Bishop Audley at Salisbury. Audley then moved to Ramsbury
where Richard died. They both seemed to come from Hereford. Richard spent an
extremely short time in Wiltshire before his death. Audley was said to have
gained his position due to old family loyalty to the Lancasters. This is
significant. Richard was partly funded in Salisbury by the Hungerford family
who were Lancaster loyalists. The Hungerford family (lords of) owned the
huge estate of Upton Scudmore which was part of a network of wool producing
estates. The Carpenters were freeholders on the estate and had 60 acres of
their own land as late as 1600 when Christopher Carpenter still held title.
Christopher was the youngest son of Robert Carpenter who was presumably of
priest Richard. Presumptions are that the Upton Scudmore Carpenters produced
their own wool and probably had much to do concerning the greater estate
wool. An interesting point is that the youngest of Scudmore Robert's sons
was left in the area by late 1500. The other sons moved to land in other
areas. The House of Lancaster connection here points to business as usual
for the English Carpenters. This was unexpected.

Hi Sue,
I've got oodles for you. William David Carpenter was half-brother to my
George Jr. They and three sisters remained in Rockingham Co VA while the
rest of the siblings headed west. Some of these established Carpenters'
Station near Hustonville, KY. I grew up in Rockingham Co VA where my
family remains--so my research has concentrated there. I have very little
on Mary Polly, but would like to exchange information with you.
Also, if you go to
http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/RockinghamBios There may
be a lead to a woman with some more Shaver info for you.
