Hello CARPENTERS,
Hope this email finds you & yours well.
Phoebe and some of the rest of you are sure putting some interesting stuff
on the list. Thanks!
Re: MAPS
I guess I should have paid attention in school to history. I just saw a
map of the U.S. in 1810. At that time Alabama was then Mississippi
Territory. AL was not a state until 1819. Also noted that Illinois and
Michigan were part of the Indiana Territory then.
Question ?
Wills, land records, etc that transpired before 1819 in ALA, were they
recorded as Mississippi?
Thanks for any answers in advance,
Donna Carpenter

Looking for info/parents of George Bradford Carpenter, b. 1842, d. 1914 who
married Mary Elizabeth Covey, b. 7/6/1846, d. 1926. Have extensive Covey
information back to England in 1535.
GBC and MACC's child, Harriet Wells Carpenter was my great grandmother who
married Theodore Julian Van Horn, a SDB minister. Their only child, Amey
Doris Van Horn was my grandmother. She was born in Ashaway, RI, October 24,
1899.
I would love to have this info since I'm trying to get a family history book
ready for my father's 75th birthday on July 6th.

I believe this is all that I have abstracted. I would not represent that
there are no other wills of either Carpenters or in which the Carpenter name
may be mentioned.
These represent the vast majority, if not all of the wills in that series.
I am no expert on NY wills. I know that there are some earlier wills,
including some Carpenter wills in the book, Long Island Source Records, and I
have seen other very wills not in this series also. I believe that I saw some
abstracts on the Long Island Web site also.

will try to remember to place this information on each post from now on. I

Aside from all the interst in finding ancestors, there is also sometimes
difficulty in finding descendants of known ancestors. I would be interested
in postings from anyone who has worked on this and may have suggestions.
My own "missing descendants" are in the families descended from Joseph
Reeves Carpenter (1861-1905). He was born in PA, but lived in Grand Rapids
MI (296 Crescent Avenue) at his death (11/01/95). He was employed by the
Stickley Brothers Company. He was the half-brother of my grandfather, both
sons of Virgil Murray Carpenter of Pittston PA.
JRC's wife was Manette Nichols Carpenter. They had three children;
Manette Lansing Carpenter (1895-?), Joseph Griswold Carpenter (1896-?), and
Mary Elizabeth Carpenter. The widow Manette Nichols Carpenter is listed in
the Grand Rapids city directory up through 1917, but disappears in the 1920
edition; perhaps she died, perhaps she remarried, perhaps she moved away.
Daughter Manette Lansing Carpenter married Edward A. Jewell in Grand Rapids
on April 4, 1914.
So, aside from the general descendant search question, does anybody know
anything of these Carpenters?

Hi all. Greetings from Fife Lake, Michigan.
I was in a second hand store in Traverse City, Michigan this weekend
and happened upon two very old photos mounted on cardboard maybe
around the early 1900's. Purchased them and am looking for their
owners. I am posting the information written on the back in hopes
that maybe someone may recognize their names and let me know. I will
be glad to snail mail them to their rightful owners.
The photos are in very good condition. Would also appreciate any help in
passing this info on. Maybe we can be successful and sending these
memories to their loved ones.
Photo#1.......
was taken at the Michigan Photo Company and is of two very young
girls who appear to be under 5 years of age. The handwritten inscription on
the back reads:
Orphas Lessley Dawson
January 24, 1894 and died July 1st 1957
Ora Wesley Dawson born December 15th 1894.
Photo#2.......
was taken at B.C. Mapes, (extra finish) photographer and is of an elderly
woman
inscription on back reads:Mary Lyle Calbetzer wife of Daniel Calbetzer.

I am sending this info out to as many lists as I can because I know if
someone found a treasure as this I would be very excited to be
notified.

I am looking for any information on Margaret L. Carpenter. She was
born ca July 1861 in Mississippi. She married Colwell Brooks ca 1878,
probably in MS. According to family tradition, her father was a
Confederate soldier and her mother was a full-blood Cherokee.
Supposedly, the family was moving out west when both the parents died.
The oldest boy, perhaps named Noah, took care of his younger siblings
and brought them back to their grandparents.
According to the 1900 and 1910 census, she had 8 children, 4 of
which must have died young. The 4 I do have records of are;
Lula L. Brooks-born Sep 1882 in TN, died in childbirth ca 1905 in
the Indian Territory or Oklahoma
Olon Edward Brooks-born 18 Oct 1888 in Rockwell, TX
Joseph C. Brooks-born Sep 1890 in the Creek Nation, Indian
Territory, died in WWI
Emma R. Brooks-born Jun 1893 in the Creek Nation, Indian Territory
Her husband Colwell Brooks died ca 1897 in the Indian Territory.
She seems to have married a man named Parks, of which I have no
information. Prior to 1910 the family moved to Clark County, WA.
Sometime later, she abandoned her family, and supposedly died in Nevada
in the 1950's.
I would love to hear from anyone who has any information on this
family.

MI Death records
If you had trouble with the link, try the address.
This is indexed so you can find it by Surename of the individual or Surename
of the individual's father. This way you can find a married woman by her
father's surename.
Also you can access the lists by the name of the county.
Some people had trouble with my link, maybe this will work better for you.
